And did you see the two closest prez rivals in Argentina were women. Why doesn't machismo get in their way?

And why is that news stories, when they talk about women, feel obligated to say how many children they have and don't do the same for men?

"A witness told police the driver made a "blatant swerve" at the bicyclist. She thought the motorist was "intentionally trying to strike or intimidate" him."

We need a better phrase than "SUV driver" for these people. (Nobody would say "Knife user and pedestrian do battle in Belltown", after all, they'd say "mugger and ...")

Any suggestions?

In the meantime, I suggest the use of the simple word "asshole" as in "Asshole and cyclist do battle in Fremont".

Perhaps AssSUV? Hmmm...

Nice to see that the US and Argentina are roughly on par in regards to family dynasties handing off power.

@3 does your username refer to the bike brand that's so popular in Amsterdam right now? That's my dream bike! I was in Amsterdam twice this summer and it's truly the hottest thing in town right now. They are so cool.

It's good to see that Boston's "finest" didn't kill anyone this time.

@3: I think "SUV driver" properly connotes "asshole" without any modification.

@5 Yes, and did you know that the main maker of them in Amsterdam was started by an American?

Most boring World Series ever?

Really? If I make a "blatant swerve" towards a police officer I'm sure I'd be in jail.

Proposed solution: cyclists wear same outfits & ride same bikes as the bicycle mounted police.

@8 Wow, I didn't know that.

I did look at their website earlier in the summer and was extremely amused to find that their motto is "our - service and guarantee simply by - you - around the corner!" It doesn't make sense in Dutch either.

Fuckwad SUV driver. That is attempted murder (a felony, duh). I would've broken his windows with my U-lock.

"Sharrows" is a seriously lame neologism.

Wow, SUVs are bad? Novel concept and insightful commentary.

Longtime bikers also can back me up on this one: There are good streets to bike down during the day, and there are ones to avoid, unless you *want* a fight. The same goes for driving -- I wouldn't do Denny near the 2200 by bike or car or armored car at most hours of the day.

The city isn't your playground, hippies. Suck it up.

@15: The City has designated Stone Way as a bike route, but you're saying it should be avoided by bicyclists?

For the record, its a Merlot Murano, not maroon.

#3, I think it's the same reason that when someone gets hit with a skateboard, the article always refers to the attacker as a "skateboarder", but when someone is beaten with a baseball bat, the attacker is never referred to as a "baseball player".

Some things, no matter how unnecessary, are just seen as normal to the papers demo, and the language is shaped as such.

Sharrows piss me off as much as those damn crosswalks sans stop light or stop sign. I mean really, what's the fucking point? -- Other than lulling bicyclists and pedestrians into a false sense of security.
