Shake Shack II

posted by on October 2 at 22:27 PM

It’s true, there are no prohibitive fences at the Shake Shack, but there are 2 hour lines and huge rats running around between the tables and the ivy. Still, they make the best black and white milkshake I’ve ever had.

I for one would be freaked out by the giant rats, but delicious milkshakes are a compelling argument. Yet another reason I with I lived in Seattle, instead of the middle of nowhere MI.

I believe our Mr. Emeritus is in NYC, not Seattle. There's no Shake Shack around here. Or giant rats; we have little tiny rats in Seattle.

There were no rats last night--and no line either, Sean, at least not when we walked up. There was an enormous line when we left.

Oh, and there were some tiny darling mice darting in and out of the ivy. There are mice and rats all over the place in all big cities.

Shake Shack rocks. I've not seen the rats, squirrels (FEARLESS squirrels) yes, but not rats. Though I don't doubt it.

I still haven't been to The Shake Shack - thanks for the reminder! Question, though: is the black and white milkshake anything like a black and white cookie?

Look to the cookie!

Dan, the word darling and mice just do not go together : ) YUCK....
I only have a few phobias and rats are top of the list, mice would come in second.

"There are mice and rats all over the place in all big cities."

That doesn't make them any less gross, nor does it make it any more acceptable for a burger joint to host them. Big cities have crackhead vagrants, too, but with the exception of a few Stranger staff members, not many people find them "darling."

I've never seen rodents at Shake Shack. And at 5pm, there are no lines. 11-2 & 6-9, yes. Very much so. During busy times, the line is more like an hour and half, but the wait for your food takes another 30-45 mins. Check the Shackcam on their site first.

Should you wish to eat your burger at common meal times, I suggest the shorter (and often absent) lines at BRGR, Stand, Molly's, Resto, Blue 9, BLT Burger or Blue Smoke. All are a short cab ride away from teh Sh@q.

So I'm drinking my soy milk chai in St. Tropez and I noticed it is very hard to pair a nice Riesling with blackened Tuna and Endive salads, since the oakiness and mocha of the wine conflubulates the hearty stalwartness and smokey underpinnings of the Endive. Oh, you don't summer in St. Tropez? Why am I posting this, you ask? I don't know. Ask Sean the emeritus.

The giant squirrels are a pain, too....

you don't have to go all the way to NYC for the best shake in the world. it's right in our own back yard. take a day trip to cle elum and stop at mcguire's giant burger: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/232/522868883_3719664c0a.jpg

the best damn shake anywhere. i highly recommend the chocolate bananana (made with fresh bananas). the corndog, fishwich (mmm, greasy), and the burgers are to-die as well.

Also, I was in NYC for 3 weeks and I ate at the Shake Shack 5 times, underfoot rats be damned.

@11: Rieslings are unoaked, and go terrifically well with tuna and endive, and most foods, because of their high acidity (acid makes the mouth water). There's no mocha. You've never been to St. Tropez, and "conflubulates" is not a word. If I had to guess, I'd guess that's not even real soy milk in your chai.
