Prepubescent Boy-Men Rejoice

Just Announced:

DANE COOK

KEYARENA – SEATTLE, WA

Thursday, November 29, 2007

On Sale Friday, October 12 at 10:00 AM

I can’t remember the last time a single comedian was booked at KeyArena. Although, George Carlin and David Sedaris are both booked into Benaroya Hall—they probably wouldn’t allow a single Dane Cook fan to step foot where the symphony plays. I think he spreads herpes through his words.

Ugh. Ye Gods, Dane Cook has always given me a total douche chill. He and Patton Oswalt are like the Skeksis and Mystics of modern stand-up with one representing all that is good and just and decent and hilarious (Oswalt) and one representing all that is hacky and cretinous and painfully unfunny (Cook).

Yeah, that's right, I just busted out the Dark Crystal reference. What of it?

I am regularly forced to explain to my high school aged students the many reasons Dane Cook is not funny.

High school students are pretty dumb.

Dane the Stain...
I have laughed harder at jokes from a 5 year old.

Seriously, I knew there were a lot of douche bags in the Seattle area, but enough to sell out Key Arena for Dane Cook? Yikes...

Oh jeez, I thought the flyer said the show was at 10:00am. Dane Cook with a bowl of oatmeal I can handle.

Wow, I had no idea Seattle had such a passionate hatred for Dane Cook. It's probably just because he became popular, so naturally all the cool people gravitate away. I enjoy Dane Cook AND David Sedaris.

Yuck. May god save Seattle's soul for allowing that man to hold a microphone within our hallowed city.

Amelia, nice blog. Now listen, my advice is often questionable, but I would NOT accept Mary Kate's invitation to be a guest Slogger if I were 17yrs old. I'd sign up out of the blue based on a friend's suggestion, in person, to DO, oh something like go to Austria and study/party for two months.

@9

Big surprise. You hate South Park, you like Dane Cook, and you actually went to see The Heartbreak Kid. Your taste in humor is incredible.

And yes, that's why we dislike him. Because he's popular. You got us. Since you're obviously above the whole 'if it's popular it's lame' attitude in Seattle, which I don't think actually exists, why are you on Slog? Why are you linking to Slog? Hmmm?

I was about to come to Dane Cook's defense until I realized that the only thing I've ever liked were his 2 albums. I still like those, but they don't have the lasting value of a David Cross album. Everything else he's done has been awful.

There's a lot of comedy out there, and in the grand scheme of things, Dane Cook is pretty innocuous. It could be worse...it could be Carlos Mencia or Larry The Cable Guy coming to Key Arena.

I was about to say the same thing. I used to rather like his albums, but then I started actually listening to/watching other comedy and realized that not only is Dane Cook not the funniest guy out there, he also got a lot of his shit from other people who did it first.

He just gives off douche-vibes, and his frat boy groupies don't help matters much either.

I first became aware of this guy's existence after watching a rerun of his 2006 performance on SNL. I had never heard of him and I remember laughing a few different times throughout the show and then thinking: "Wait a minute. I bet everyone who knows who this guy is thinks he's a douchebag." Upon asking, my hunch was quickly confirmed.

I agree with a lot of the comments regarding Mr. Cook's douchebaggery... but I have to admit that his line that the Price is Right wheel is filled with blood is indeed, pretty funny.

Therapy is going good by the way.
