Ugh. I don't know how someone like that can even claim to be a Christian.

I like the new title of this post Dan. Is this something that will stick? Can you title it, Billy O hating Christians?? I am not happy with him a the moment or EVER! : )

Out of all the things you have posted under They will Know we are Christians this was by far the most interesting. I need to read more about it.

true, but "Argentina's past stands in stark contrast to the role the church played during the dictatorships in Chile and Brazil, where priests and bishops publicly condemned the governments and worked to save those being persecuted from torture and death."

Uh, duh. Catholicism is almost by definition a rightist movement, since in the last century, their main foe was Godless Communism. It's nice to be opposed to Communism and all, but not so nice to ally with fascism, and @3 it's true that the local churches fought hard against the juntas, but they were not backed by the Vatican and were in fact reprimanded and told to back off.

Cognitive dissonance comes naturally when you’re brainwashed into adopting a worldview that is irreconcilable with reality. Christianity is a primer for committing atrocity in the name of goodness. Because the conditioning fails in some underlings is no proof of a church’s benevolence. Who can blame the priest? As all Christians know, morality is the exclusive purview of authority. He’s just salivating when the boss rings a bell.

Many professions have their traitors - priests who persecute, doctors who torture, politicians who accept bribes. Let's admit, Dan, that this is less an indictment of religion than a sad statement about the human capacity for cruelty.
