O They Will Know We Are Conservative Christians By Our…

posted by on October 5 at 13:22 PM

…corporate jets, red Mercedes convertibles, stables of horses, Lexus SUVs, illegal involvement in political campaigns. It looks like scandal is about to engulf Oral Roberts University:

Oral Roberts University President Richard Roberts, says God is speaking again, telling him to deny lurid allegations in a lawsuit that threatens to engulf this 44-year-old Bible Belt college in scandal.

Richard Roberts is accused of illegal involvement in a local political campaign and lavish spending at donors’ expense, including numerous home remodeling projects, use of the university jet for his daughter’s senior trip to the Bahamas, and a red Mercedes convertible and a Lexus SUV for his wife, Lindsay.

She is accused of dropping tens of thousands of dollars on clothes, awarding nonacademic scholarships to friends of her children and sending scores of text messages on university-issued cell phones to people described in the lawsuit as “underage males.”

A bit more on those underage males and the text message they received:

[Among the alleged instances of misconduct:]

—A longtime maintenance employee was fired so that an underage male friend of Mrs. Roberts could have his position.

—Mrs. Roberts frequently had cell-phone bills of more than $800 per month, with hundreds of text messages sent between 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. to “underage males who had been provided phones at university expense.”

The Lord works in mysterious ways.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

It's weird to see older women sending scores of text messages to "underage males" instead of older men sending the text messages. We can all only hope it's equally sinister.

I LOVE THIS STORY!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, no matter how many of these operations get busted for looting the donation basket, dumb old christians will still turn over their money to these theives.

It would be nice to see that family ruined.

Check it!

The importance of the written word is not lost on Richard. He is the author of numerous books, including Claim Your Inheritance (and how!), The Source, The Seed, The Answer, and When It Seems All Hope Is Gone.

Huh. Amazon has 5 used copies, starting at $2.75. No picture. No description. No comments. Damn, that book really set the world on fire.

Oh, and his wife looks like a whore. Based on her text messages, from 1 AM to 3 AM, I'm guessing she is. Well, more of a sugar momma. But we'll still call her a whore. Whore.

Bible Study, people. It was bible study. Just because Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were all underage kids texting with... um ... "borrowed" phones...

This story may well have made my weekend.

From the sound of it, she's not a whore, she's a john.

A televangelist-founded institution misusing donated funds? C'mon, that'd never happen!

Remember that Oral Roberts was the guy who told his followers that if they didn't send him 8 million dollars, God was going to take him "home."

At least the lady had good taste in Clothes. I wish i could afford to buy stuff at Chicos, I love that store.

I used to get so bugged at these posts because there really are some simple, loving Christians out here, REALLY.
But ya know these people are just NUTS and they are a massive depressing
embarrassment to ME.
So instead of getting depressed I'm going to say they deserve it!
I know some great orphanages that could have used that money and I wouldn't mind getting those clothes if she goes to jail : )

Shouldn't there be a re-write of Mrs. Robinson for her? Roberts? Robinson? It's half done.

I’ve been to the ORU campus on a dare, and the entire place is coated in a 1960s Gold lamé eruption. The enormous hands clasped together in prayer are really something to see, but these people must've ditched class on the day God handed out good taste.

I’ll have to check out Mrs. Roberts posts at blogs.analsex.oru.edu and see what all the fuss is about.

This story made my day. What is it with Conservative Christians and their penchant for spending the money of the Lord on cars and jets and clothes?

Dan, you hit paydirt here. This sounds totally slimey. Thanks for correctly entitling this "...Conservative Christians," too. I follow the religion beat pretty closely and must say I hadn't heard of this until you landed it on SLOG. Thanks, man.

Well, this just shows what happens when you negotiate with terrorists. Give in to God's demands for $8 million and his henchman's daughter in law is just going to blow it all on clothes and sweet sweet boy flesh.

gitai@16: so, can you change your name to Gatling or Gitlin, Baxendale, Borden, Pennoyer or Murphy or do you have to be born with it? the article didn't say.

Mrs. Roberts is a possible child molester, Mr. Roberts is a theif, and their daughter will probably appear on Girls Gone Wild!! To all three of them I only have one question.. What Would Jesus Do!???? Good thing I am not Christain anymore, their leaders are just fucked!

23, I know exactly what Jesus would do. Read the part of the New Testament where he calls the fundamentalists of his day snakes and vipers. Read the place where he throws the moneychangers out of the temple.

I can't believe that after 20-some years of seeing these people caught with their pants down and their hands in the cookie jar I am still appalled beyond words at the hypocrisy of conservative Christians. If Heaven and Hell actually exist they will have lots of 'splaining to do on judgment day.

Christians are all thieves and child molestors. This is more proof of what we already know.

Judaism is the world's best religion.
