Well, they do have a point. Protecting kids from bullying is far worse than burning children in Nazi concentration camps furnaces. I mean, let's be fair.

you folks really want a violent confrontation with these people? that's highly likely at a protest, you know? what is that going to accomplish? good pr for you and bad for them? making them see sense? legislation in your favor? none of the above. find another (better) way, please.

What other "better way" would you suggest, ellarosa? These folks seem to be (at least based on their archaic speech patterns) real "fire and brimstone" Old Testament types, so a non-violent "turning the other cheek" approach doesn't seem like it would have much resonance with them.

Sometimes, when the bully needs to be stood up to, the only thing to do is to stand one's ground and be prepared to both give and take some punches.

oh, so there's only one way to respond to these moron lunatics? the one way they would understand? very creative, comte. you are better off ignoring them completely than to get all hot and bothered with a protest, which ironically will lend them more legitimacy than they currently have. good work.

"Pray and fast for the kids..."?

Yes. Fast, Watchmen! No calories for 2-3 months aught to do quite nicely.

Note Neverov's phrasing, i.e. “For how long shall we cowardly *bend*..." and "For how long shall we *swallow*..." Bend? Swallow? For years, Savage has been claiming that the most virulent homophobes are the most tortured closet cases. Neverov is a textbook example. He wants it, and he wants it bad.

For all you spineless liberals who think we should not protest the Watchman tommorow: FUCK YOU!!!! It is people like you that held back the civil rights movement, it is people like you who have allowed "centerist" democrats to cave into the demands of the republican party's facism.

No one is advocating violence tommorow but we must confront them. It is the cause of rightousness that demands we stand up for what is right. This is the time to rise against hatred in all forms. This is not about publicity, this is about confronting true and genuine evil. (Yes, evil does exist in the world and the Watchman are an example of that evil)

This is a time for heros and a time for us to confront the flames of hatred and fear. This is not the time to stand back in hopes that evil will simply go away. And if the Watchman (or their supporters) turn to violence than those who stand for civil liberties and equality will rise to the occasion.

@4: These people do not respond to reasoned arguments. Remember, as far as they think, they've got God on their side.

The real point of the protest is to make the intentions of this extremeist group more visible to the general public, most of whom won't think much of the Watchmen's beliefs.

Why is a foreigner ranting on about alien immorality being brought into our nation? He's not an American!

Our goal in having the rally is NOT to confront these people. That is useless. They have the fear of God and Hell so deeply rooted it would take a jackhammer to get to their core.
We come together in UNITY and PEACE for many reasons, one is to show support for each other, another is to raise the awareness of those folks who sit back and claim there is no discrimination, racism or sexism in our community that they need to listen up.

In my heart I am finding it diffiuclt to even look the WotW in the face, but in my head I know I need to do this in the right manner. No one wants the GBLTIQ community to look like a bunch of hate-filled anrgy fools like the Watchmen are. Fighting hate with hate doesn't work!!!

ellarosa, there WILL be a protest. If it bothers you so much, then I suggest you take your own advice and ignore it.

Just me @7, I'm with you!

ellarose is simply concerned about your safety. Picketing is fine when you know how to pick your battles. This group is better off ignored because they are a bunch of lunatics that have been violent.
You are picketing anyway and nobody will stop it but don't freak just because somebody cares about your safety.
A part of me is glad you are doing it but I hope these freaks do not do anything violent which is very unlikely but you never know.

“For how long shall we cowardly bend before a morality that is alien to us? For how long shall we swallow all that loathsome stuff that is imposed on us by immoral law-makers and majorities?

Okay, I changed one word, but really, it's like a call to arms to fight for our rights!

look at comte's reasoning "turning the other cheek wouldn't have much resonance with them" who cares if it has any resonance with THEM? THEY ARE LUNATICS. and "sometimes you have to be prepared to give and take some punches." christ, comte, you are giving yourself away here. your (understandable) anger at these people has made you lose your usual good sense. you want to get down in the animal cage with these people. go ahead, but it does you no credit as a thinking human being.

Ellarosa @4:

Well, if in fact these people are as you characterize them, "moron lunatics", then, as Greg @8 points out, rational discourse isn't going to have any effect on their beliefs or behaviors either.

I'm not suggesting the protestors be the ones to start anything, but WotW specifically and publicly advocates violent confrontation, so anyone showing up there to voice their opposition had darned well better consider the possibility that violence may be inflicted upon them, and to be prepared to respond according to their own moral conscience.

Getting beat to a bloody pulp is one response; beating the other guy to a bloody pulp is another. Ignoring the issue in hopes that maybe the crazies will go away and leave you alone, is a third. But, historically-speaking, it hasn't proven to be a very effective strategy when dealing with these kinds of people.

"The Golden Rule" works both ways you know, and if their intention is to inflict violence on others, then they really have nothing to bitch about if they get a few of their own heads busted in return.

Personally, I hope it doesn't come to that, but I don't think anyone going up there to protest should be so naive as to not contemplate the possibility, and prepare accordingly.

does anyone else hope that the lynnwood convention center develops a big, fat fucking gas leak during their rally?

@15: At the same time, however, the rational person has many strategies to respond to the potential for violence. Of particular use will be those that avoid escalating the situation, I think.

I definitely agree that they need to pray and fast. ESPECIALLY fast - fast as long as it takes, fast until death. That would really send a message. I'd certainly be impressed.

And I agree they should take their kids out of public school. Think of the money the taxpayers would save on special education.

@15, I agree, we better be ready for this tommorow ( I am assuming most of us are going up there Saturday morning) and we must not to anything to challenge these people to cause physical harm. But we are dealing with those who are the definition of evil in our time: religious fanaticism. We will never encounter a force as dangerous as those who feel they do what they do for god.

But should we take our beatings (and we very likely may) then I honestly can not think of a greater good to spill my blood over. We are never asked to sacrafice for what is right in this country appathetic with consumption. Tommorow may just be our rendevous with destiny. And if we are to fall in in front of the Lynwood Convention Center then let's make sure the world hears us fall.

lets face it, a lot of gays have a lot more due to disposable income. the question these assholes have to ask themselves is this, do they want a bunch of gays like me who were picked on as kids who dont give a fuck. a person like me who sits in my posh home not giving a fuck about the rest of you? the type of person who drives around in a BMW and never gives shit to charity, or helps anybody out? Thats what you get when you make people feel unwanted and left out. we grow up to have more than you and then don't give you shit. You have a recession, high gas prices, problems...fuck you I don't give a fuck. you gotta fight a war...fuck you I don;t give a fuck. So go ahead and DON'T protect gay kids and end up creating 1000s of more people like me.
