Miller Beer is Sorry About that Last Supper Poster

posted by on October 29 at 14:14 PM

More ripples—but not the final ones—from the scandal over the Folsom Street Fair’s poster:

Miller Brewing issues apology over poster

Miller Brewing Co. today apologized for allowing the company’s brand logos to appear on a poster promoting a San Francisco street festival that some viewed as offensive to Catholics.

The poster, a parody of the Last Supper, promoted the Folsom Street Fair, which features exhibits on sexual practices. The company also said it has taken action to avoid future incidents.

The New York-based Catholic League rejected the apology and called for a continued boycott off Miller products. The league says the entire Folsom Street Fair is anti-Catholic and wants Miller to not sponsor future fairs.

BDSM is anti-Catholic.

Damn, Irena, that Sebastian looks a little too orgasmic for a martyr.

Christians are all sick perverts into BDSM. It's ridiculous how sensitive they are about being offended. It is Tikkum Olam to make fun of Christians.

On another note does anyone know if there will be a Menorah in SeaTac this winter? As a Jew I was highly offended that the sacred symbol of my faith was not publicly displayed.

I hate the Religious Right with a white hot passion. A similar passion, in fact, that I feel when I gaze upon Sebastian. Thank GOD I grew up Protestant! Less temptation.

Sooooo, if the Catholic Church drives Miller Brewing Co. out of business - this is a BAD thing?

Next year, Folsom should just hit up Anchor, Pyramid, Sierra Nevada, or the like for a sponsorship. I mean, it's not like SF has a dearth of local breweries or anything.

The Catholic Church doesn't have anything against BDSM, per se, but the 'safe, sane, and consensual' part strikes them as odd and unnecessary.

Wait, so the Catholic League wanted an apology, Miller apologized, and then the Catholic League doesnt accept the apology? How does that work?

um... shouldn't the church be sort of against DRINKING? I'm trying to think of an analogy here, but to be honest I can't think of a comparison that is less silly than the truth: the catholic league, shocked and offended that a BREWING COMPANY would use sinful advertisements to sell, well, bottled sin.

Drinking isn't a sin for Catholics (drunkenness, yes: drinking, no; for the difference, cf. "gluttony: eating").

@Issur I mean jews are pretty cool and all and I'm totally down with menorah-ing the fuck out of SeaTac but were you really offended? I mean I'm Australian and Seatac has failed to recognize our national religions of cricket and rugby for years. I dont fret for there is always solace in the temple of the Kangaroo and Kiwi, I beleieve the equivalent to be a synagogue?

Is anybody going to ask for a Spaghetti Monster display at SeaTac this year? C'mon... you know you want to.

Demanding pirates, prostitutes and a beer volcano seems kind of redundant when you're that close to Hwy 99, don't you think?

Would that be the Miller Brewing Co that just merged with perpetually homophobic COORS??? Coors that the gay community has boycotted on and off for decades>>>

Odd timing, eh? Right after they combined entities. Thanks, but I'll be boycotting Miller from now on (but I drink gin any way)

I love that they tried to "apologize" for something they had no business apologizing for, and the damn Catholics STILL want to boycott them. Nice going.

MillerCoors -- the worst beer in the world. I don't need to boycott them because I don't drink shit beer. Well, occasionally a Miller product, so, when you connect yourself with the Coors family in any way, your on "the list" with me...no more Miller.

Maybe they were offended there wasn't a priest in the picture. You know priests have needs too.
