Gah! Fire is frightening!!!
What, no gay angle, Dan?
This is a tragedy, but at least since most of the victims are rich and white it should ensure a better federal response than Katrina.
CLINT- How could the reaction be any WORSE than Katrina?
Well, Rex is a homo too, so there you go.
Pitbulls.
Jesus Christ!
Yeah, I was about to say. Was Michael Brown rehired?
one of my best friend's parents were evacuated. in addition to being freaked the fuck out and in very real danger of losing their home, they forgot to grab the bag of weed on the way out.
i hope that they, and the other residents of san diego, have found a way to calm down today. what a nightmare.
Coming soon ...
Insurance companies (er ... US taxpayers) will single-handedly bail out the dismal San Diego real-estate market. Good-bye, supply glut. Hello, seller's market.
Dan, how's your father doing?
I'd just like to point out a couple things:
1) Report in 2004 showed "San Diego firefighters short on staff, fire engines, safety gear, training and coordination."
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/fires/20040810-9999-1m10cedar.html
2) The state of California is using prison labor-- over "2,640 trained inmate firefighters"-- to try to put out the fires.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/24/us/24cnd-fire.html
3) Score another point for disaster capitalism. Privatized rebuilding process catering to the super-rich with no-bid contracts to follow in 3, 2, 1...
@Kerri/9
"they forgot to grab the bag of weed on the way out."
Thanks...this story FINALLY has a personal touch ;] NOW I feel bad for those people down there
While I have personally fought forest fires with USFS and have loads of compassion for the folks who's lives have been disrupted (or destroyed) by this event, it remains true that Nature Bats Last. And always will.
