I agree with you about not wanting another white male president.

I will definitely put my support behind Hillary, Obama, or Edwards when one of them gets the nod.

It's just that, in addition to fear of a 2 family dynasty, I just find myself agreeing with Edwards more than the other 2.

Obama is a pretty good candidate, except I don't like his reliance on biofuel and so-called "clean coal" in his energy plan.

"Clean Coal" is probably just pandering to the rust belt, no one in their right mind believes it can help the environment. that said on the whole i still prefer Obama, though i am a little pessimistic about his ability to climb to the top of the ticket after 2/3rds of a term.

but i really can't stand Edwards, i'd vote for him, but i liked Kerry better.

@10 - Ryan: I assume when you say a Bush or Clinton has been in the White House since 1980 you're thinking of Bush 41 who was Reagan's vice president 1981-1989.

NTS Bush 41 was no Gore or Cheney and seemingly had very little Veep impact on presidential policy. In fact one of the lasting sore bones the White-Haired, Red-Eyed, She Devil Mama Bush had to pick was that the Reagans never invited Poppy and Bar up to the Residence for drinks or dish.

I want to point out a major difference between Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is qualified. Laura Bush graduated from Southern Methodist University and got an MLS from UT-Austin. Hillary Clinton graduated from Wellesley and Yale Law. Laura Bush worked as a teacher and librarian. Hillary Clinton worked for the committee that drew up the Articles of Impeachment for Nixon. Laura Bush volunteered to improve libraries in Texas. Hillary Clinton was in senior positions for the Childrens' Defense Fund and the Carnegie Counsel on Children. Laura Bush volunteered for the PTA. Hillary Clinton chaired the Arkansas Rural Health Advisory Committee.

In other words, Laura Bush has spent her life as an ordinary society wife while raising an alcoholic husband and two alcoholic daughters, and Hillary Clinton has spent her entire life building public policy.

If our caucuses were going to matter, and I could keep from vomiting at the thought of the assholes who run them trying to railroad me into choosing their candidate long enough for me to participate, I'd totally go for Obama. But you can't say that Hillary Clinton is unqualified.

You may indeed be right that (when VP) George H.W. Bush wasn't exactly "in" the White House much, but if Senator Clinton does indeed win the Democratic Party's nomination, that'll be some 28 years that a Bush OR Clinton has been on a national ticket... which is quite a statement. Think of it - nearly 3 decades with either a Bush or a Clinton up for either President or Vice President. That's quite a profound statement.

But, with Mr. Savage's assertions that we live in a Banana Republic, I counter with this: we CHOOSE to live in a Banana Republic. An important distinction.

Choosing Hillary for president just because she is a woman is idiotic. Look at Condi Rice, the first Black woman to be given such prominent roles in our Government, and she helps herald in the Iraqi Genocide; hardly what Martin Luthor King dreamed about I am sure. Look at �Impeachment is off the table,� Nancy Pelosi, the first speaker female speaker of the House, which by the way has an 11% approval rating right now.(Is this a record low?). Is this really any more cynical than Hillary's political career? With all the smart accomplished women in this country the first serious female canidate is one who's only had her position because who her husband is? She got her job with the Rose Law firm when her husband was elected governor (no conflict of interest there) and she got elected Senator in a state she had never really lived in because her husband used to be President. At least Laura actually got a teaching certificate and taught school.

Most people do this. They get a job because they know a someone who works there, or they have a friend who knows someone who's looking to hire someone, etc., etc. We don't all do this constantly, but we do it. And we don't feel guilty about it, and we don't see it as dishonest. We call it social networking, and people are *encouraged* to do it.

Perhaps you can envy her well-connectedness, but I think it's unfair to blame her for using it to her advantage. You would in her shoes. And, it doesn't invalidate the fact that she is better qualified, has experience holding positions in government that Laura Bush simply does not have.

The only place school teachers should be president is on Battlestar Galactica. ;)
