That's one of my favorite commercials of all time. I probably think that line a dozen times a month: Hey man, is that Freedom Rock? Well turn it up man! I love it! Never bought it. But I love the commercial.

Oh God, nearly 20 years on and I still know what the next clips is going to be, in order.

Dylan, on the other hand, is probably just fine speeding around town in his Starbucks-Victoria's Secret special edition Cadillac Escalade, Jesus riding shotgun.

Wow, this takes me back. This commercial was probably the first time I heard some of those songs, and whenever I hear them now I think of the ad. How wrong is that?

What - no 8-track tapes? WTF?!?

And um, aren't about a third of the songs on that list from the mid-to-late 1970's?

So really, the bandana, bell-bottom & granny glasses wearin', long-haired hippie Tommy Chong wannabe with his split-window, barn-door microbus (which VW stopped producing in 1971) is either time-trippin' or else he's really, really behind the cultural curve.

But then, I guess that's exactly the type of dude who might be compelled to purchase this slightly upgraded K-Tel product...

Every song in that ad I think is pre-73, with the exception of Free Bird and that Elton John crap.

Kinda surprised I've never come across any of those LPs at a thrift store, seems like there would be hundreds of thousands of them out there, giving the heavy rotation of the ad. Everyone must've ordered it on CD to go with their new players.

@5: last year for split window bus was 1967 (also, the year they went to 12 volt, which is why 1967 transaxles are so hideously expensive)

and thus I am outed as a true VW geek...

It's wrong that I really, really, really want to buy this and I'm going to check and see if it's available on ITunes, right?

This ad ran constantly on MTV during the late 80's. Ahh, fond memories of misspent youth.
