And actually, the term "retarded" is still used appropriately for people with developmental disabilities--most oftenly used in the phrase "profoundly retarded" to describe someone with severe congnitive problems--not to describe Bush or someone who votes for the wrong candidate in a primary election.

I think it's kind of a fitting metaphor for a lot of people's lives, who make one mistake and see everything come crashing down. I also think Judas is neither hero nor villain, but has aspects of both-like the good Christians teach (notice I say good, not fundie, or as I call em Uber-Christians) we have all sinned, but that does not make us inherently terrible people or unworthy of love and redemption. Judas committed a great mistake (if anything, he was not loyal to his friend) but ended up having a helping hand in history.
