you would think the minnesota court would have some leniency on an oppressed "NOT GAY" man, come on can't you let us have this scandal for another year, please.
it was a long shot
bye bye
on to the need to get rid of ALL neo cons
Damn. I was hoping this would drag on and on.
I dunno, Sen Craig might feel like the whole thing has disappated enough for him to stay?
But in any case, Idaho is a lost cause for us. No way a democrat will ever be elected there.
"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds" as Larry Craig would say.
He's going to stay no matter what.
I read the transcripts and there is no question what Larry was really doing. But it also seemed very obvious to me that there was no case against him. I'm glad they refused to take back his guilty plea though. This is how law enforcement operates for the majority of people. They get you to confess without a case. Even if that means threatening to expose you if you don't agree. I have to give credit to the Minnesota police department. They treated him the same wa y they would anyone else.
*weeps*
Leave Larry Craig ALONE!
Don't despair Dan! It looks like he just might appeal. From Towleroad:
Now the question remains, will Craig step down? Craig could hypothetically appeal the decision, according to the Idaho Statesman's Dan Popkey, and put in motion a court process that will allow him to stay in office until the end of his term:
"...the likely scenario is Craig will head to the Minnesota Court of Appeals. He can expect oral argument within two or three months after filing his challenge to an unsatisfactory ruling. An appellate decision would come within another 90 days, extending Craig's battle to spring. Next step: the Minnesota Supreme Court, with arguments to come two or three months after a second appeal. The average time between argument and a decision is 4› months. That gets Craig to term's end in January 2009. At that point, assuming his guilty plea stands, Craig can say he fought the good fight. Meantime, he will have remained in office, continued to collect his salary, and boost his pension that's based on years of service."
We'll likely know soon.
@3
Dan, I somehow don't think we've heard the last of this.
Larry Craig is a total douche.
That being said, can anyone please explain to me how having a cop sit on a toilet for 8 hours a day 7 days a week arresting people - not for having sex- but for possibly arranging to have sex- is a good use of tax dollars? Why aren't more people outraged about that issue?
Maybe if they'd put more money towards public works rather than toe tapping cops that bridge wouldn't have collapsed.
@10:
Because the reason that cop was there is that people complained about what was going on in that bathroom in general, I would assume.
I'm thinking the locals are happy; they asked for action and they got it. Whether it was an appropriate expense, yadda yadda, is irrelevant to those people.
I've lost count, have all the incumbent GOP Senators decided not to run in 2008?
And, if not, why not?
Oh the priceless irony in ABCNews.com's coverage of the latest on Senator WideStance:
"Judge: Craig's Guilty Plea Stands
ABC News' Jake Tapper Reports: A judge has denied a request by Republican Senator Larry Craig of Idaho to withdraw his guilty plea in connection with a bathroom sex sting. "
They assigned a reporter named Jake TAPPER to this?!! Hilarious!
I wonder if Larry Craig gets hard thinking about Jake (foot) Tapper?
:)
Seems like he's set to stay in office through the end of his current term.
Though, the last congressman who was convicted of a crime ended up getting expelled. Trafficant, (D-Ohio), then ran for office the next term from his prison cell and got a good percentage of the vote.
Guess it's different for Senators though, a little more moral flexibility perhaps... or maybe just for goppers?
In 1999, Craig became sharply critical of U.S. President Bill Clinton for his sex incident with a White House intern. Speaking on NBC's Meet The Press, Craig told Tim Russert: "The American people already know that Bill Clinton is a bad boy - a naughty boy. I’m going to speak out for the citizens of my state, who in the majority think that Bill Clinton is probably even a nasty, bad, naughty boy.”
@11 Uh huh. People complained.... Right. You assume. People wouldn't have even known about that fuckin restroom if it wasn't for this. And please tell me exactly how many times you've walked into a restroom (that wasn't in a bathhouse) and have seen people having sex? I haven't ever. I have seen people shooting up before, but two guys butt fucking/sucking cocks? Never.
And it seems like the police reponse didn't even stop people from cruising either. Perhaps a big sign saying "Watch out for men with wide stances!"
He issued a statement saying he wasn't going to resign and would continue to fight.
Thanks Larry!
looks like you get your wish, dan:

what a great segue from endless cummer in cocktober. a gift that keeps on giving!
He's going to stay. He's going to stay!!!
Let's give this hypocrisy another spin at the front page. Awesome!
I always thought Idaho's First Couple,
Butch and Gay
would welcome him home to Idaho with open, ummmmm, arms.
#10 and #16: The whole story of escalating enforcement at that particular "cruisy toilet" can (or could) be found via reports posted at cruisingforsex.com starting with stationing a security guard outside almost a year ago, and reaching a crescendo in July and August when the good senator was nailed, so to speak.
My advice: Don't do the crime if you don't want to spend the dime.
For all you fans of anonymous restroom sex: Contact your local legislators: you've got to fight for the right to par-tay. And always check the latest "head's up" reports, before you stick your head under the partition.
@ 21 "Don't do the crime if you don't want to spend the dime."
I don't feel sorry for Larry Craig, but It still is entrapment. I don't feel sorry for Larry Craig, but I do feel sorry for these guys

teehee johnson city.
Well, at least their local 85 yos could find a hookup in the Man Cave.
Some enterprising entrepreneur should open Gayland. The Cruis-o-rama section would combine a park, a highway rest area, a health club, and a department store. Hourly, uniformed police officers would wander through to give patrons that essential frisson of fear.
