Off topic time : this motherfucking banner ad you guys are running now that starts playing some godawful hip-hop shit when you open a page SUCKS MAJOR ASS. Ditch it. Soon. Please.

And by the by - am I the only one seeing these borderline X-rated banner ads EVERYWHERE in the past week or so? What is going on with that? The one of the chick's asscheeks is - well, I'm certainly not offended, but I'd like to know how they're getting away with it.

And I love her oh-so-cool tone: "I'm for civility in life." Argue with that, fundamentalist troglodytes.

This is, like, Dear Abby's daughter? Or am I thinking of Ann Landers?

Which brings up an interesting question: Will D.J. inherit the mantle of Savage Love after his father, and his son or daughter after him, and on and on unto eternity? Are advice columns like a Clinton/Bush Dynasty thing?

@3 - have to agree - not only is the music bad but the animation really kills bandwidth for some of us.

dannnn, since you like to quote Savage, it's best to keep in mind his saying of sorts, "The Stranger is theater."

But The Stranger isn't live theater. It's more akin Hollywood, a medium of theater. Everything is dumbed down here in order to appeal to a mass audience. Sure, there are some thoughtful and very pertinent pieces to society and people throw around respected thinkers' names, but that is exactly what Hollywood does.

They both enjoy their top ten lists, awards' shows, contest giveaways and once in a while you'll here someone like a Brendan Kiley doing crazy things like a breaking an ankle, much like the fodder we here about Tarantino or someone pissed drunk and catcalling women in an alleyway.

The "serious" news of The Stranger is the same. In a movie such as "Black Hawk Down" we are supposedly getting the story of Somalian wartime, NOT TRUE, not according to the book and even farther away from reality.

Have you heard about the beginnings of the show American Bandstand? The idea was stolen from a New Jersey disc jockey who was just wanting to spin records for kids circa 1970. A fabricated smearing of his reputation forced the cancellation of his dances and less than a year later, Dick Clark appeared in the dumbed down version concocted in L.A.

So sit back, dannnn. Enjoy the pleasure of being used by the media and consider being spammed as a nod to the expertise you've done in your role as an extra. The charade doesn't stop. Next to nothing is sincere on Slog.

I suppose I'm stating the obvious.

@9 -- to add to your comment, those who make a sincere effort in, say, gathering statistics from a sex survey or breaking down the intricate meanings of hand shaped devil horns, you are foolish.

Funny, I haven't read Dear Abbey in a while,but...
I am raising two boys. As a parent, I have ran across the "What if he is GAY!!!"
I usually respond "Then my job is harder; My child should never feel there was any closet to come out of."
Dear Abbey has always been a strong supporter for acceptance. Manners and culture aside; this is the most basic decency.

As far-reaching as Savage Love and The Stranger are - and they are, Dear Abby is even farther-reaching. That's the middle-of-the-road American's version and the good news is they're both pitching the same tune - and both their audiences are buying into it and losing one more tiny notch of tribalism or narrow-mindedness or blithe ignorance. Isn't that a good thing?

And the slog especially deletes comments that my show their esteemed editor, America's favorite cocksucker, Dan Savage to be the war monger that he is.

What a pathetic bunch of assholes The stranger staff and their fans are. Scratch the snark and the irony and the posturing and there is nothing there. No wonder the country is losing the fucking war. Hell I'll bet 80% of you assholes still live at home with the folks.

The original Dear Abby is still alive, but was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1995. Her daughter is writing the column now.

Oh, and it's awesome that she's publicly pro gay marriage.

I never understood why ppl would want advice from a woman who was incapable of getting along with her own sister. So she supports gay marriage big deal shes still an idiot.

I'll take it. It's nice that she's even willing to answer questions about transgendered people--something many of the presidential candidates won't even mention.
