Slog - Comments on In the Closet http://slog.thestranger.com/2007/10/in_the_closet The Stranger Election Control Board interviewed the two candidates running for King County Prosecutor yesterday—Democratic challenger Bill Sherman and GOP interim KC Prosecutor Dan Satterberg. Our endorsements for all the ballot measures and candidates—including the KC Prosecutor's race— will hit in two weeks. Satterberg gave us several copies of his band's CD and boasted about the endorsement and high ratings he's gotten from SEAMEC (they're gay!) and NARAL respectively. Super dooper cool. Apparently Satterberg doesn't want everyone in on the news. The GOP candidate's web site doesn't mention SEAMEC or NARAL on his list of endorsements and supporters.... I usually like the guy but his inactions and then sudden dissaproval of light rail is intollerable.

But seriously Stranger, I know it's a tough choice, but please do some serious reporting and hopefully tell us something we don't know about prop 1 before coming out for or against it.

In the end I think it comes down to opinion, values, and speculation-

Do you think roads and light rail will be good for the places they are going?

What do you value more: having an uncompromising global warming stance and waiting for a more enviro-friendly solution to come along, or doing something big and regional about our transportation problem right now?

Do you think Sound Transit has become better at running their agency to the point where they can be responsible with this money? Do you think RTID will listen to the concerns of the citizens it serves?

I value light rail highly. I value doing something about global warming, but I think there are much larger forces at work and we will ultimately be better off with new roads which reduce congestion. I think Sound Transit has become much more competent in predicting cost of light rail, and I think RTID will listen to the concerns of environmentalists, bicyclists, and neighborhood activists in the implementation of their projects.

I'm voting yes.

I recommend The Stranger Election Board review their notes from last year's 43rd Legislative District dust-up to see where they ranked Bill Sherman then. Near the top, if not for their final Pure choice, as I recall. Bill Sherman really is the better man. Go there...

SEAMEC gives a rating to every candidate based on their gay-related issue positions, not one single endorsement. I bet Bill Sherman was rated highly by SEAMEC as well, since he is very pro-gay.

The way this post is authored makes it seem like Satterburg got the only endorsement, which is disingenuous.

Uh, actually they have endorsed Satterberg. It's on their homepage:

"SEAMEC Endorses GOP Candidate for Prosecutor"

Their voter guide has lots of confusing Lucky Charms on it, but it's an official endorsement nonetheless.

Sherman has an almost identical positive rating, BTW.
