I think his images are lovely and subtly arresting.

Mysterycat: Welcome to Slog. Sorry I had to drag you in here. But maybe I didn't introduce your work well enough to start a good discussion. Plenty of your images on Flickr could pass in almost any group portraiture show. Do you call yourself an erotic photographer? If so or if not, why?

That's a headscratcher; this year's Seattle Erotic Art Festival was a major snooze and a big letdown from previous years...

Hey Jen:
Maybe an interview in the paper is in order so we can know more about Mystery Cat?

hey jen,

To be honest, i was very
suprised when i was nominated for this
award. I had never really considered myself
an erotic photographer even though there are
themes that could be consided erotic in
alot of my work (voyeurism, fetishism etc).
The images themselves are quite far
removed from what is generally
percieved as erotic. My influences are not
from the accepted erotic world but also have
distinct sexual themes in their work.
two of my biggest influences are the fashion photographer
Guy Bourdain and the director Dario Argento.
Because the other nominees were more traditionally
'erotic' i was doubly shocked to win!!
but.....
i guess i should leave the question of whether
my work is erotic or not to the perception of the viewer.
anyway....sorry to ramble on!

Hey MysteryCat, I'm not big on the art scene and rarely understand Jen's posts (because I'm just not art-inclined) ... but I wanted to say congrats.

Those images are quite interesting. Some of them are extremely beautiful, I thought.

Congrats again.

Huge Congrats! Mystery Cat is one of my favorite Seattle photographers...
(even though the already-slutty Laurelton Apartments are now even sluttier after all those photo shoots)

Hello everybody. Christian has just sent me details of this blog and I would like to say "Hello". I am the founder and director of the Erotic Awards which voted Chrisian as Photographer of the Year 2007. The Grand Jury agreed his work is gorgeous, sexy and of very high quality. The Seattle Art Festival people were utterly unresponsive and I thought this might have been because they were busy and by the time I had given up on them, it was kind of too late to take them out of the finalists. Shame, I wonder what is happening there. Anyway, we are now thinking about 2008 and so any of you out there who want to nominate and artists, photographers, writers, etc (see our websit for details) or help us in any way to publicise the Erotic Awards - please be in touch. The Awards raise funds for Outsiders, a charity where disabled people find partners, so it's all in a good cause.
I've got a great photo of Chrisian winning, if you can accommodate it by the way.
