These days whenever I'm somewhat impressed by a new filmmaker/artist/musician's work, I'm haunted by the fear he/she will turn out to be a Scientologist. Beck, Doug E. Fresh, and Miranda July have been slightly ruined for me by their Scientology; who's next? *shudder*

Do not dismiss what they say about psychiatry so quickly. After I went on Prozac I became fully aware of the danger presented by Xenu.

I'm very sympathetic to harsh criticism of psychiatry, it's a shame it (or at least the more publicized manifestations of it) mostly comes from Scientology.

It seems pretty ironic that Scientologists are so harsh on psychology; whose tricks do you think they use to scam converts?

Man, I wish I'd known about this in advance. It'll take two weeks to get a copy of L. Ron Hubbard's autopsy report, the one that indicates that he was on all manner of psychiatric drugs at the time of his death. I wanna make copies and hand them out in front of the display.

@3 - Miranda July is not a scientologist. It's on her website - http://mirandajuly.com.

Here's the blurb:

"I don’t like to use this site to combat the goofy world of gossip, but my best friend has gently suggested that I make a statement to end a recent debate. So here it is: I am not a scientologist. I am so totally, completely not a scientologist it’s not even funny. (No offense Tom and Katie!) It is a little unreal to me that anyone could have any confusion about this, but I guess strange things are sometimes true. Not this time."

Whew!

To all previous posters:

I am a Scientologist, and for the record I don't care what you think of Scientology. That is your opinion & you are entitled to it. I am long past the point of feeling I have to defend it to anyone for any reason.
That's why I, as a human being (not a Scientologist) am asking you to put aside any bias and/or opinions you have based on what you've HEARD and actually GO FIND OUT what is being presented in this psychiatry exhibit. The only way to REALLY know something is to discover it for yourself.

Someday maybe you'll do the same for Scientology.
