He's Mr Poe, he has to comment.

He likes to be firstable. And annoying, sometimes.

I believe I am obligated to say Go Rockies here. I promised my mother that I would if it ever came up.

So, uh, Go Rockies.

I'm conflicted. What do you do when the team of your childhood, in my case, the Bosox, meets the team from the state you've come to love over two decades, in my case Colorado? (A state which over the last four years has essentially completed its shift from red to blue, Chicago Fan, you provincial midwesterner!) What are the odds that my NL team should wind up meeting my AL team in the World Series?

SOX! YEAHHHHH!
You think ratings will suck with Boston vs Colorado, imagine if TWO flyover teams were competing. The test-pattern Indian guy
http://www.kozco.com/pictures/mscope/mscope.jpg
would get better ratings. With the Sox involved, a lot of people with Boston nostalgia (it's America's college town) will watch.

Uh...I like ChicagoFan. And Terry Miller.

I agree about that Mr. Poe douchebag. Dude's fuckin' annoying. And dumb.

But I would have to say that "big gay" posts are welcome at Slog, and that irrelevant comments on anything in relation to sports should be welcome as well. Just sayin'.

@8 I agree. BOTH coasts would snooze at Indians-Rockies. The Red Sox have national interest (along with the Yankees and the Cubs).

Mr. Poe is like an irritating buzz in your ear that you just want to swish away but after awhile it's kind of endearing.
I like Mr. Poe a lot but he can be irritating and frighteningly disgusting at times like when he posted a pic of a dead baby : ) I wanted to make him dead when he did that!!!
I bet he was one of those kids in school that the teacher wanted to shut up but was laughing at the same time. Kind of like that hyper kid that you want to hit but hug because he can be adorable when he wants to be.

Seriously, record low ratings would be the case if Cleveland had faced the Rockies in the World Series. Instead, a bajillion Sox fans are going to be tuned in. I don't know if there are actually Rockies fans, though. Do they exist?

I remember Rockies fans screwing up traffic when I lived in Denver, so yes, they exist. My friends and family who care about sports are very happy. Just because they're not arrogant and PR-supported doesn't mean they don't exist.

Chicago Fan fell victim Mr. Poe's antagonizing! Omgggg, much to learn, Chicago Fan! For your own sake, take a page from Annie Wagner's book and ignore that silly troll.

What sort of douchebag takes a state's political demographics into consideration when talking about sports? Oh yeah - Slog readers.

Incidentally, Mr. Poe is the only remaining reason to read the comments here. Remember that.

Seems the World Series gets later every year. When I was a kid The Fall Classic was played the last week of September/first week of October. Period. Now its going into mid-autumn. And the players have to wear fur-lined gloves and jackets. Sad.

Baseball, a spring and summer game, and its post-season should have long been over with before now.

As for mixing politics and baseball, take that up not with this SLOG reader, but with SLOG poster Chicago Fan, who listed Colorado's supposed Red State status when justifying his support for the Indians. More generally though, if you don't like the sports/politics combo, you'll want to avoid being anywhere near a TV during this coming summer's Olympics.

On the one hand - having grown up a Red Sox fan, with continual disappointment and frustration a part of the whole culture - I feel a little weird that they won the World Series 3 years ago, and have steamrolled the AL again this year. Are they becoming what the Yankees of my youth were? The cocky jerks who always win?

On the other hand:

GO SOX!!!!!!!!

Fuck Boston. Easily the most arrogant city in America. And they got their ring, finally. GO ROCKIES!!

BTW, Eric from Boulder, it's pretty gauche to root against your home team, but do whatever feels right. I went to a couple of Colorado vs Seattle games at Safeco rooting for the Rockies...

The Red Sox were awesome in the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees, finally lifting the curse and uniting Yankee haters everywhere.

Now, they’re just the Yankees with slightly less money and better management.

@23

Ch-yeah. That's what he told you. But!

No. Really. Who confused us?

Hey, the Mariners have plenty of money, with 3 million lemmings a year passing through the turnstiles to watch mediocrity and a super-sweet deal at Safeco. Unfortunately, they a) refuse to spend a lot of that money, and b) waste the money the are willing to spend on second-rate free agents and washed-up pitchers.

Don't blame the Red Sox for having money and spending it wisely.

Who gives a shit about the ratings? The teams that are in the Series played and won the games. Just like all the other teams in the league - except (like Cleveland) they didn't win quite enough games. I'm looking forward to Rockies / Sox.

Ratings. Fuck off.

Matt: "it's pretty gauche to root against your home team"

Rooting for a team isn't really a fashion statement, but, yeah, I'm with you. Maybe it comes down to, where IS home? You know, when you've moved around a lot...

One way or the other, I wouldn't show up at Coors Field in full-on Sox regalia and spend the whole game chanting "Let's go, Red Sox!" Even if I _could_ get through to Rockies ticket sales. Which, like everyone else in Colorado, I can't.

@ 29, maybe "gauche" is the wrong word. But you got my meaning... And I rooted for the Dodgers growing up because you had to root for someone and Kansas City (formerly the nearest MLB team to Denver) didn't cut it, George Brett or no. Still, that was out the window once the Rockies came to town.

You probably already know, but in case not, keep checking back for tickets, most of them weren't sold. (Obviously the team wasn't really expecting to get this deep or else they would have come up with a much better ticketing system than this...)

Dan I think the guy was confusing Terry with ChicagoFan.

Which I think is bad, real bad, for all involved.

I wish I hadn't moved from Denver already, that'd be pretty sweet watching the Rockies win the series. I got connections for tickets yo!

Red Sox = Yankees

No difference whatsoever. Both spend far in excess of any other team. Rooting for these teams is like rooting for the Bank of America.

It was cute in 2004, but in 2007--GO ROCKIES!
