The Program, curated by the Blue Scholars, represents the peak of a new movement of local hiphop that began in 2005 (or 2004, if you want to be accurate) and is currently expanding like something furious at the corner of the known universe. The schedule: Tue 18 - Blue Scholars,...

I'll be going to the Wed show for sure. I'm surprised Gabriel Teodros isn't at any of these.

Where's Gabriel Teodros? And where are the local hiphop LADIES?

Still, this is pretty fucking exciting. Dyme Def and D. Black rocked my face off at the Block Party and now I'm even more of a believer. Neumos, note: please set up a bunch of fans (not human fans. Real, whirring fans) in your venue. It's too fucking HOT.

Much respect to the scholars for doin what they believe, but in truth, isn't this just another hip hop show? Yes, all those artists are great, but none of them are exactly ground breaking-like the Def Jux stable, for instance. What's the big deal? Are they going to tell us to not wave our hands in the air every 3 minutes, and not have towels and water bottles in their alternate mic hand?

No need for every concert to be groundbreaking. This is a celebratory event... Seattle hiphop has come a LONG way in the past five years.

As a side note, is this why the Two-Oh-Six Hiphop Theory class at Seattle Central was canceled? Because if it is, then I'm not so disappointed about the cancellation. I'm taking the money I get back and putting it towards an artisan cheese workshop at South... AND going to these concerts! Best of both worlds.

"The greatest artistic achievements to rise from the American experience are found only in two art forms: jazz…and cinema…No great work of literature, poetry, philosophy, visual art even comes close the the bottom of the best that exists in either jazz or film form. That is a fact. You must live with it." - Charles Mudede on October 4 at 10:32 AM
