Fred Thompson Is the Best Fred Thompson He Can Be

The media wants you to concentrate on Fred Thompson appearing to be semi-comatose and constantly canceling campaign events; what you don’t see is that he’s been to Florida “three or four times,” or that he once helped capture (with the able support of Alec Baldwin) The Red October.

(Via Time)

Thompson hasn’t been in South Carolina in more than a month, he scrapped a recent trip to New Hampshire and then canceled a news conference Saturday in Florida.

“You can name a lot of places that I haven’t been, and you can name a lot of places that I have been several times,” Thompson said in an interview with The Associated Press.

“I’ve been to Florida three or four times,” he said. “The mainstream media, with all due respect, likes to concentrate on the process game on a daily basis, and I can’t get caught up in that. I’m going to do it the way I want to do it.”

Thompson pointed out he comes in second among Republicans in most national polls and has more than 100,000 contributors, despite making decisions that defy conventional wisdom.

Anyone else want him elected just to see if he shows for his innaguration?

Laziness seems to have been a common dominant trait for at least the last four Republican presidents. Of course the one that preceded those more than made up for it in rampant paranoia.

Thompson will win in a landslide.

No, he won't. Thompson is a nothing. He's going nowhere.

@2!!! You reminded me!! Thompson is doing Thomas Dewey's 1948 stratagy!!! By not really running he hopes to defeat the Democrats. I mean that is how Dewey won in 1948!! Wait...Dewey lost to Truman...

But laziness seems innate to the GOP, Eisenhower and Hoover were not super "busy" either. Neither was Coolidge or Harding and Taft, well he was so damn fat he could not move.

Why are the Democrats the only ones who actually work at being President?

The last paragraph really says it all. If a johnny-come-lately slack job like Thompson is #2 (!), the GOP really is desperate. Maybe the pundits are right--their only hope is Hillary, who can galvanize the base by giving them someone to vote against.

This plays right into the "Government can't solve the problem, Government IS the problem" mentality of Conservatives. A hard-working President is seen as an enemy of the American taxpayer by the right wing.

I hear his next role is as the Crypt Keeper, with his young bride.

Fred "Crypt Keeper, with his young bride" Thompson.

Hilarious... they should do that for Halloween.

He won't need makeup.

Being a movie and TV star, I'm betting he's pretty good at putting on his own makeup, IMHO.

Naw, they have people to do that for you, Will. Fred just has to sit in the chair, while they work on him and try not to let his facial skin sag any closer to the floor.

The closest Fred Thompson gets to caring about patriotism is looking like Sam the Eagle.

Fred Thompson doesn't want to BE president, he wants to play the part of president. Apparently a roll he plans of phoning in.
