Youth Pastor Watch

posted by on September 18 at 11:22 AM

St. Louis, Missouri: Youth pastor charged with 107 felony counts of sexually molesting girls under the age of 14.

Battle Creek, Michigan: Youth pastor on trial for soliciting a child for sex online.

Jackson, California: Youth pastor pleads guilty to two felony counts of oral copulation with minors under the ages of 16 and 18

Bradenton, Florida: Youth pastor admits to molesting sleeping 15 year-old boy.

Grand Rapids, Michigan: In a poor choice of words, the new senior pastor—and former youth pastor—at Grand Rapids’ True Light Baptist Church pledges to “embrace young people in the area.”

The first two stories are about the same guy--though it never says that he was charged with any crimes while he lived in Missouri, just that he had ties to the area. Disturbing nonetheless.

Whoops, fixed.

Dan, the Bradenton, FL story is about a former teacher molesting a boy, not a youth pastor (it was the youth pastor who the victim's mother called to confront the teacher). Horrible story nonetheless, but the way your post is worded is deceiving.

Now battle creek and jackson have the same link.

As a youth pastor myself Savage, I can tell you that Youth Pastor:"Real" Pastor::Bank Teller:Vice President of Financial Operations. In other words, a bunch of random-assed people volunteer for what is possibly the worst gig in the church, an establishment to trusting to run a basic background check. It's a friggin perv magnet.

Dan is misrepresenting the St. Louis story as well. "Pastor Jeb" is 43 years old. I don't think that qualifies as a "youth" pastor.

Can we add this sick fuck to the list ? He was busted for trying to have sex with a 5 yo girl. Gotta love those family values types... now we know what "no child left behind" really means... http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/14132485/detail.html

@9 - as I said, why would anyone else want this otherwise crappy job? My church briefly limited the job to deacons' wives to avoid this nonsense. It's no longer deacon's wives, but its an all female crew.

@7: a Youth Pastor ministers to youth, not is a youthful pastor. So a 89 yr old can be a Youth Pastor.

Youth pastors sexually molesting young boys. Ho-hum. Old news. Let's move on to something more interesting, like right-wing, "family-values" politicians. Oh, wait - that's old news too. Who's next? Gay alternative-newspaper columnists??

Also @7: What Dee in Sf said. My mom's youth pastor was about 95.

@5 - "an establishment to trusting to run a basic background check"

I think you meant to say "too". And "thrusting".

@15 too. oops

And your second statement? As a Christian let me say - no, go fuck yourself instead.

And as a non-believer, let me say - no, after you. Or one of your "brothers". Asswipe.

And as a non-believer, let me say - no, after you.

Sorry, I don't engage in such behavior. But I will tell those that demean my faith to shove it.

But since I am a preschool Youth Pastor, I wipe my fair share of behinds. sigh.

And I will tell those who use their faith as an excuse to "wipe" and "thrust" (not to mention "demean") their fair share of behinds to shove said faith as well.

Read carefully - nobody's saying you do this. But you might want to have a few words with some of your brethren. Or not. Where one chooses to wipe is a personal preference, after all.

but...

I think you meant to say "too". And "thrusting".

Hmmmmm…………………………….unless you consider yourself “nobody”

You might want to have a few words with some of your brethren

This reminds me of traveling abroad and people telling me what we Americans should do. I can't tell all Christians what to do any more than I can tell Bush what to do. I can do a great deal within the 4 walls of my own church, but I can't go cross country policing everyone else's. What have I done with my own brethren? When we started our teen ministry, some suspect people who we can't shake down to show up at Christmas and Easter suddenly wanted to help out. Yeah right - wanna help the teens, go make copies of the lesson plans ya pervs, but stay away from the kids. I brought in forms from the State Patrol and wouldn't you know, a suddenly eager band of volunteers scattered. Now it’s just me, a few sorority girls doing their community service and the menopausal set.

Where one chooses to wipe is a personal preference, after all.

It sure beats working with the teens. (No, can’t get anyone to work with them. Thank God for church geezers)

you know, maybe it is time for the churches to have only women work with children within the congregation. and these pedophile/perv scandals may be the final blow to the vatican hold-outs on female ordination. this is probably not an original sentiment, as it is sooo obvious but i've never heard it said before. (or only very old men, like the 95 yr. old youth pastor @14).

Loved the Saint Louis story. The only thing more consistent than these churches' compassion for their rapist clergymen is their utter contempt for the victims.

Marla dearest,

Perhaps I should mention at this point that my initial comment was (and was meant as) nothing more than a little smirking joke. You, however, are the one who came back with the lovely invite for me to "go fuck myself" instead. How quaintly Christian of you.

But I'm finished now. Especially since if there was any discernible point to that last ramble of yours, it sure as hell wasn't visible to me.
