Where’s the Outrage: That ’70s Show’s Last Supper

posted by on September 26 at 9:00 AM

The whole stoned gang on Fox’s That 70s Show gather together to mock Jesus Christ.

Click here for last suppers featuring the Sopranos, the Simpsons, serial killer, Muppets, zombies, gay bears, cute dogs, wooden kittens, depraved knitters, and more.

UPDATE: Miller Beer asks that its logo be removed from controversial—well, controversial everywhere but on Slog—Folsom Street Fair posters. JoeMyGod has the story, the statement, and contact info for Miller Beer. Says Queerty: “[We] think the poster’s great. Fuck Miller, who drinks that piss anyway?”

Tsk, tsk, Queerty. Piss drinkers have always been welcome at the Folsom Street Fair—hell, the piss drinking community probably saves FSF thousands of dollars every year. Think of all the port-a-potties FSF organizers don’t have to rent.

Dan, who EXACTLY, is outraged? I read the other posts but you haven't mentioned exactly who is so outraged.

Dan do you ever lose an argument? Geeze you can really drive your point into the ground!
I know you can't handle this and you hate ALL CHRISTIANS but there are some Christians you have actually had an impact on and changed!
Message gotten loud and clear on this Stupid Last Supper thing.
I grew up in the Bay Area and I think everybody in the San Francisco is like whatever! They do not give Christians the time of day and Christians do not dominate San Francisco.

You would consider me part of the America Taliban but I promise to spare your life If I ever have you cornered.
Actually it all depends on how much of a jerk you're being that day!

Dan, I honestly am not sure what your point is after awhile. You beat on a dead horse that most people (except Fox News) seems to care about. You pander the the extreme right by fueling their extremist outrage and give them more to bitch about.

Thank you for helping the extreme right wing of America out Dan.

Mom my mom's a Catholic, my step-dad, siblings, aunts. I have my many friends that are Christians. I am not anti-Christian. I'm anti-American Taliban, fundy nutjobs, and bigots with God in their pockets.

Why would anyone want to go to Townhall or CNS News online, either to reward them with a pageview, or to just waste seconds on their sites to begin with?

I'm sure you can find sites on the ass end of the interweb complaining about all kinds of shit; who cares?

And, I'm sorry, but "ignore them and they'll go away" isn't gonna work. It's also not a luxury that those of us on the receiving end of most the religious right's attacks can afford. We must respond and, yes, win these arguments. And it's not just our sex lives we're defending, but the sex lives of heteros too -- they're coming for your birth control pills, in case you hadn't heard.

As an agnotsic coming from a family of fundementalist Christians I agree with Dan. They choose what to be "outraged" by, most of which is fabricated for them. Most fundies are "fundementally" good people, they are just misguided and are being manipulated by the powers that be. Because they are basically told never to question the word of God, they never question authority of any kind. They are also rewarded for depriving themselves of pleasure and happiness. They truly believe they are under attack. It is sad really.
They need to be educated and reminded of their "savior's" last commandment to "love one another." Somehow that whole concept has been forgotten. I've read the Bible and went to a private fundamentalist Christian school and I can say that no where does it say in the Bible to hate everyone that doesn't agree with you and boycott, intimidate, and legislate to force them to fit with your world view. Sad really.

Well this is one NON fundy nut job, bigot that likes you Dan!
I hope it does not give you nightmares that a Christian actually likes you. :)

But whom are you arguing with by continually posting about this here? We all know they're a bunch of hypocrites, and most of us have seen most of these faux last suppers before, and could care less about any of them. Right wing jerks overreact about gay-themed Christian satire; no one who reads Slog is going to be surprised about that.

What are we supposed to think--that these people wouldn't be disgusted by any aspect of Folsom otherwise?

There's no real outrage here, so just enjoy the parodies of Last Supper without the patronizing.

Concerned Women for America is behind slamming the piece (where's Tim Burgess when you need him)

They are upset YET provided one of the best promo pieces I have ever seen:

The most unimaginable and vile acts of debauchery are commonplace during the fair. Senator Larry Craig was arrested and driven out of the Senate for allegedly soliciting public 'gay' sex, yet during this event the city of San Francisco suspends the law and allows 'gay' men and women to parade the streets fully nude, many having sex — even group orgies — in broad daylight, while taxpayer funded police officers look on and do absolutely nothing.

The mainstream media should cover this event with cameras in hand. There's an unbelievable news story here. The Folsom Street Fair is reminiscent of Biblical Sodom and Gomorrah, and the media should document exactly what the city of San Francisco is allowing to occur – in public – in the name of "tolerance."

Thanks Dan for the Links!
I love the ads for the wing nuts: the hot chick with the Anti Clinton shirt? I can almost hear old republican men yanking their pugs over the pic. And I'm so sure an attractive young woman would sport that shirt.
I thought it was fun to see all the last suppers.

Well, well, well -- did folks note who is attacking the most about the poster?

Yep, here they are AGAIN, Concerned Women of America.

CWA are rabid, long term, horridly anti gay hate mongers from the religious far right. AND, the same place, SAME organization Mr Tim Burgess worked for who is running for the Seattle City Council.

Did you make the connection, Dan?

Course only helped them raise tens of millions of blood money off the suckers using fear and hatred, all that so they can keep attacking the gay community.

Slime ball organization. Slime ball candidate. Vote Della.

And this fag is sending Della another small check.

And CWA backed Miller Beeer down. And as I read here, CWA is howling in DC to oppose the Fair Housing and Employment bill in Congress.

Boomer @16's got the crucial point here. What these parodies show is that the Last Supper thing has been done and done and done, it's a mild shock tactic and not a very inventive one at that. The outraged Christians are just looking for something to prove that the world has gone to hell so that they can rush in with Jesus as a quick fix.

Posted by Katelyn | September 26, 2007 10:55 AM

@19 Burgess didn't "work for" CWA. The organization was one of many clients of his company.

Good catch though. CWA whines about a lot, frequently, so it's not surprising to me they picked up on this one.

Want to offend? Show Jesus taking it up the ass by Mohammad while Moses sucks off Jesus. Now THAT will shock!!!

Well now - under contact for about 325,000.00 per year for 9 years, his PR role was to write the hate mailers.

Did not drive the truck to the post office. TOP LEVEL CONSULTANT.

Sounds like you are nit picking about the word work.

He worked for them, took in over 2 million in fees.

Sorry, it is as bad as it looks. Burgess is a greedy dog. Does not deserve leadership in Seattle. No way.

the fact that a sponsor is pulling advertising indicates there is outrage over this. dan is making a good point that -- if not pushed -- will be lost.

Wow the xtians sure do seem to get testy when their co-believers in the supernatural get called out for their stupid shit.

tiffany, that's because a loopy xtian does something considerably loopy, and the response (here and often) is that all xtians's are loopy.

I'm with 26. The fact that a major sponsor (the one all the linked articles were highlighting) pulled out proves it's not a non-issue.
There's also the fact that the link to the poster now only shows an obscured version indicating that SOMEBODY behind FSF is feeling the heat.

Bashing Christians is Tikkm Olam, and having an apostate Christian writing for a Jewish publication like The Stranger makes for a delightful read.

I love every caustic word Dan Savage writes about toxic Christianity. The sooner Judaism is accepted as the world's best religion, the sooner peace will come to our sad planet.

Dan has more balls than any other writer in Seattle to constantly attack toxic Christianity. It's bringing tzedeck in to our world every time Dan posts bashing the idiot Christians. All Christians are perverts.

Only Judaism is a perfect religion, and The Stranger is Seattle's most Jewish newspaper and best newspaper, that stands for something.

People, you cannot make judgments on Christianity based on the actions of a few "loopy" right-wing politicians, and then get react in disbelief when those same few Christians make judgments on homosexuality based on the actions of a few sex offenders. You can't fight fire with fire, and you can't change the lines along which someone thinks if you think along those same lines.
