I counted backwards from 100, was gone by 90, and woke up to be shepherded by my boyfriend back home, where the pain was never so bad that I needed anything more than a prescription strength acetaminophen. I was eating normally within two days.

My friends had experiences out of Little Shop of Horrors or Marathon Man, including the dentist digging his knees into their chests to get the leverage to yank their teeth out. They needed opiates and had to resort to putting tampons in their mouths to soak up all the blood.

After I had my wisdom teeth out, the oral surgeon prescribed me 21 tablets of vicodin, of which I picked up only five at the pharmacy. I ended up taking a total of two and flushing the other three down the toilet.

Each time I took one of the pills, the following unpleasant things happened: After 30-40 minutes, I threw up everything that was in my stomach.Then I got very dehydrated. Then I sat around for about four hours, not being able to read a book, watch TV, or sleep. I was cranky and felt useless. And there were no "my feet are floating" drug effects to make the experience more entertaining.

After tossing the Vicodin, I took ibuprofen to manage the pain and didn't have any problems.
