Yeah, I'm not so much into drug art, but if you dig minimalist boxes, the interactive beautiful wood boxes at SAM off in a corner reading/computer room was the highlight for me last week. So refreshing to be invited to touch the sanctified craftsmanship of another partisan in work, not crime.

"cheap shock racism" is perhaps a good layman's description of jack daws' new work at kucera, but to be honest, there's little there that actually causes any real shock. it's pretty predictable stuff. daws' has devolved into being "clever" (or perhaps he always was), and as for being a "troublemaker", give me a friggin break. the current issue of Mad magazine is more transgressive than anything in this show. i'm surprised Graves still pimps this shallow, self-satisfied pap.

I was expecting a little more from someone of his reputation. Every statement he was trying to make was at the surface and not thought provoking at all. Nothing ran deep. Guns? Drugs? Native Americans and alcohol.........Okay....it's supposed to be edgy, but I don't think anyone was shocked. I'm sure he's been busy and threw something together really quickly for the show at the G.K.G., so I'll give him the benifit of the doubt this time and keep a close eye on his future shows. Hopefully nothing from the Kucera show will ever be used again.

Clever? Good use of metaphores? Nope. I'm sure Jack Daws is capable of good work, I mean he's showing work at decent galleries in this little city. I think if I was a huge fan of his work, or a personal friend, I'd have liked the show more. His friends, including Jen Graves, seem to think it's a pretty valid show. As it stands, The work in "Nothing to Lose" is about as clever as a "knock-knock" joke. Go see it. It's important not to miss these shows, especially if you're on a field trip with your high school art class. If that's the case, the work may be thought provoking and possibly influential. If nothing else, art at this level will seem very very attainable.

-This is all just my opinion and well....you know how that goes. It's nothing personal. Take it with a grain of salt and please don't let this post upset you.
