To Circumvent Election Rules, Dino Rossi Says He’s Not Officially Running for Governor. Well, Let’s Go to the Video Tape

posted by on September 13 at 9:12 AM

Goldy’s got the latest Democratic Party hit piece on Dino Rossi up at HorsesAss. And it’s a compelling exhibit in the Democrats’ case that Rossi’s non-profit, Forward Washington, is simply a front group for Rossi’s run to be the next governor.

The tape puts clips of Rossi’s 2004 stump speech side by side with his Forward Washington stump speech. The revelation? “Non-candidate” Rossi is using the exact same language in 2007 that candidate Rossi used in 2004.

The significance? Rossi, who says he’s not officially running for governor, is flouting state regulations by raising money for a political campaign, but hiding his donors from the public by using a “non-political” front group as cover.

He’s also lying to the public about his status. And as evidence like this keeps popping up, it’s no wonder he’s been losing credibility all over the state, including in Eastern Washington.

As long as he is OK with relaxed nightclub rules and making more bike lanes this should be completely a non-issue with SOME people here. (just like Burgess' apology about wanting to force women to stay in the kitchen)

It'll be interesting to see these two matched up again. I'll admit I voted for Rossi last time, and after all the recounts I think there was essentially no winner in that race. Gregoire has governed like she had a clear mandate, and has done a pretty good job. She's got my vote this time.

oddthumbs comment is exactly why this will be Gregoire's race to lose next time. Sure, last time it was essentially a tie. But last time they were both running for an open seat. Next time Gregoire will be running as an incumbent. While some will have a complaint or two, she's basically done a decent job, and hasn't done anything hugely controversial. The general outlook in the state is okay, and there have been no major disasters on her watch. She'll have way more name recognition than Rossi next time around, and the middle of the road voter is probably happy to just leave her there for another term.

Unless she really fucks it up, Rossi will have a huge uphill battle if he wants a rematch. And right now he seems to be generating more negative publicity than positive. His claim that he isn't running will return to bite him in the ass when he actually does declare he's running. Stupid move, Rossi.

It's all over for this year, Josh. Rossi has conceded the championship to Stoner. But look for him to dominate next season, when Yamaha will have worked out the kinks in their pneumatic valves and will give Rossi a bike as good as any in the field, maybe better.

I'm sorry, I just can't get excited when yet another Red Bushie is found to be continually LYING in public.

It's what they DO.
