Tim Burgess

posted by on September 6 at 15:38 PM

Remember him? The guy who did work for Concerned Women for America, and is now running for City Council?

We met with him yesterday. I just spent three hours writing a 2,000 word long post about it. And now, thanks to the magic of technology, that post is gone. Once I’ve stopped banging my head into my desk, I’ll try to recreate it.

Me too!!! I have been waiting for that post ALL DAY!

Sorry you got pwned by technology. It's an experience that we all share at one time or another.

I so feel your pain! That sucks!!!!! (Plus, I have been waiting to hear about the interview).

ECB, I say go out and enjoy the sunshine for awhile and come back to it this evening or tomorrow. Your readers will wait.

Aw, sucks.

Well sometimes the next version is even better after something like that. Good luck E SEE BE!

@2: I was working on a program once for my numerical analysis class. I was writing it on a lab computer, and uploading it to the school server to recompile. At one point I made the mistake of trying to FTP it to the server before it was finished saving a change I'd made.

The entire thing ceased to exist, on the server, or the local machine. Six hours of work that I'd been periodically saving, like a good user, was completely and comprehensively gone.

God damn condos. Condos once deleted my whole MP3 collection. I blame men.

Losing those 2,000 words was the Muse's way of saying don't bore the reader with overwriting.

Slog posting by Stranger, always insufferably cute, self-absorbed or just sophmoric and mean, have gotten really long...which makes them even more annoying.

Take the bus, blah blah.

Darcy's wonderful, blah blah.

Hey, nothing about Steinbrueck for at least a week. What gives?

That sucks. Also been looking forward to the story, but I guess now I'll just head home now! :-)

@8: You should have stopped at "overwriting."

This is why you have Auto-Save - and you set it for ten minutes.

And you backup a folder when you take a break (on a Mac it's click and drag, on a PC it's ... um, the same, cause they stole it).

What 1983 technology are you using that doesn't autosave? There's this new product out for computers called a Word Processor....

@14: Other things they stole:
*Displaying information on monitors
*Text input through a 'board' covered with lettered 'keys'
*Wires

twenty bones says she was typing the whole thing in her web browser (blog post form) and it crashed.

If you're writing 2k words use a fucking word processor and copy/paste at the end.

Not that i'm bummed that your screed was lost to time. Karma is a slitty clit, yo.

@ 8: Yawn.

@ ECB: Sorry to hear that. I, too, was looking forward to this Burgess post.

I just came in here to say a big fuck you to anyone whose post was along the lines of "No big loss" or "Girls can't use internet". There's always more than a few on an ECB post.

...for the record, I was merely stating that the experience of losing a ton of information on your computer is sucky and universal.

AWW MAN!!! Now I wish I'd saved it too. At least I got to read it before it disappeared.

You know we flame you cause we've been there, Erica. At least you owned up to it, instead of pretending Iran stole it, like Bush does.
