I'm sad too. My assistant just read me your passage, and the word 'spectacle' resonates heavily. If people would just close their eyes and listen, maybe they'd understand what I write.

Check out number 2:

"2. 1995 California Angels
The Angels led by 11.5 games on Aug. 9 but blew it, going 12-27 in their final 39 games and allowing the Seattle Mariners to make the playoffs for the first time. The Angels won their final five to force a one-game playoff with the Mariners, but Seattle ace Randy Johnson put the Angels out of their misery with a 9-1 win. Seattle stunned New York in the first year of the Division Series round, then lost to Cleveland in the American League Championship Series."

People who lived in Seattle this year will never forget that game!

To chicago fan: Thanks, I think.

For the record, if The M's played in the National they would have the post season locked.

I am going to tonight's double header, mainly because I have season view reserved seats that nobody wants to buy and also to boo the skipper and throw something at Bavasi.

I am hoping my old team ( the Philies) catch up to the Mets(only 2 games back.)

Late-August collapse aside, the fact that it took the Mariners 156 games to be mathmatically eliminated is indeed a pleasant surprise. It got us to football season, where the Seahawks shall reign again over the NFC, while chants of "Grieee-seeee" shall rain again (and again) over Soldier Field.

As a close observer of the most distressing phold in MLB history (I was in the Connie Mack Stadium crowd on the day the Phils phell out of phirst place), I hasten to note that what happened to the M's this season so pales by comparison that it might as well be an albino.

This run was over one month and a 9 game losing streak ago. The M's chances were basically doomed after that big skid.

@ 4 and 5

I was at the game at Soldier Field Sunday night, and was chanting "Orton!" Fuck Greise, or Greasy, or whoever. Let's go with someone who hasn't tanked out three other places already.
