For some reason I always think of poor people when I smell pancakes.
I make such good pancakes that I very rarely go out for them. I think the last I had in Seattle were at the Globe a long time ago. They were giant and wonderful.
For some reason, I always think of pancakes when I smell poor people.
For some reason, I always think of a black woman dressed as a slave when I smell pancakes. (You know which brand I am talking about)
When I was 5, my air force dad was stationed in Anchorage while the rest of us lived in Sacramento. We would go to visit him via Seattle and one thing we always did was go to the 5 point cafe for pancakes. 20 years later, I moved to Seattle and the first thing I did was go to 5 point.
It's certainly changed a lot over the years. Most notably the vibe, but those pancakes haven't changed. They're still the best.
Hey y'all. Cato's post is the best so far. I am going to go watch my bootleg Green Hornet DVDs as a tribute to Cato, OK?
No reasonable individual would order pancakes over french toast. Fuck.
Maybe I'll make pancakes for lunch today.
The Five Point and Mecca are owned by the same person. They have the exact same menu. Sometimes you will see someone who normally works at Mecca picking up a shift at the Five Point (and vice versa). No wonder both places have great pancakes!
Huge fan of both places. Fantastic food.
@ 7, given that almost no one except for myself and a Denver greasy spoon called Pete' Kitchen knows how to make french toast, only a fool would order them over pancakes. Unless they explicitly state that they're using brioche or maybe challah.
@10 try Portage Bay's french toast, it's delicious.
@11
Atlas down in the U village used to do some mouth watering Challah french toast.
I used to love Minnie's blueberry pancakes years ago- fat juicy berries cooked into the batter, as big as the plate, dusted with powdered sugar and thinly sliced lemon. They have lost their intiative since then. Now they throw canned blueberries on top.
I love everything about the Five Point, but the one time I had pancakes there, I got food poisoning.
What the fuck. PANCAKE POISONING! How the fuck do you make pancakes poisonous by innocent neglect?
Maybe I played too much Devo in the jukebox and not enough Queensryche.
@ Up above: WRONG Cato whose name I took (go back about 2000 years and go to the Roman Senate)
Food Poisoning from Pancakes??? Were they green? But I got food poisoning from Dicks on Broadway a month ago.
I had a "Deck Hand Special" at the 5 Point this morning, which includes pancakes, and I'm still feeling just fine.
BTW, even though The Mecca & The 5 Point are owned by the same people, apparently the management styles practiced at each location are vastly different, as evinced by Sam (you'd know her if you were a Mecca regular: blonde, tan, Aussie), who now works at The 5 Point, and urged me to "never go back there (The Mecca) again".
COMTE: Baring public servants, describing folks at their jobs is a big no-no, me thinks... 'specially since you could get her in a little hot water for this one.
i like pancakes, but they always make me feel sick.
french toast is way better on the tummy.
also waffles.
I did, in fact, make pancakes for lunch today, and they were delicious.
