2008 The New Hampshire Debate, Part 2

onAnother exchange from last night that people are dissecting today:
MS. KING: The issues surrounding gay rights have been hotly debated here in New England. For example, last year some parents of second graders in Lexington, Massachusetts, were outraged to learn their children’s teacher had read a story about same-sex marriage, about a prince who marries another prince.Same-sex marriage is legal in Massachusetts, but most of you oppose it. Would you be comfortable having this story read to your children as part of their school curriculum? …
MR. EDWARDS: Yes, absolutely…
SENATOR OBAMA: You know, I feel very similar to John…
SENATOR CLINTON: Well, I — I really respect what both John and Barack said. I think that we’ve seen differences used for divisive purposes, for political purposes in the last several elections, and I think every one of us on this stage are really personally opposed to that and will do everything we can to prevent it.
With respect to your individual children, that is such a matter of parental discretion…
Clinton, with her hedging answer, was obviously anticipating this:
Mitt Romney issued a statement this morning condemning the Democratic candidates for their refusal at last night’s debate to rule out teaching about gay issues to second-graders.

once again, hillary gave the only well-rounded answer, through which she'd clearly thought before. that said, romney is a jerk. and i really love watching john "i'm on a journey with that" edwards attempting to tackle the gay rights questions. his silly insistance that 2nd grade may be too soon was just so awkward.
perhaps a better question - if a second grader with two daddies is getting picked on by a bunch of bullies with mommies and daddies, should the teacher defend the child with two daddies or is that bad because they're supporting/defending THE GAYS?
Hm?
Mitt Romney issued a statement this morning condemning himself for being a bloated, cultist asshat whose stuck in 1824. His three wives were not available for comment.
and mitt won't win any extra votes for his side with that statement, so who cares? the only people favorably impressed with his "condemnations" are the people who weren't gonna vote for a dem anyway.
SENATOR CLINTON: "...I think every one of us on this stage are really personally opposed to that and will do everything we can to prevent it."
Hillary Clinton is such a two-faced bitch and that's the best thing I can say about her.
how is this a "gay rights" issue? give me a break!
edwards actually seems genuine, but he still comes across as patronizing. it's ridiculous to hear him cry the "discrimination" that gay couples face "every day," because the BIGGEST discrimination is the denial of equal marriage rights! which edwards supports! and which he points out that his daughter and wife think he's wrong on! so the "every day discrimination" language is hollow and patronizing.
obama's answer--about how politicians exploit fear of difference--was the best.

Original Andrew, I believe you misread the quote. The "that" to which Hillary was referring was "differences used for divisive purposes".
But for calling our front-running Democrat a "bitch", thus using her gender against her, a hearty FUCK YOU.
Oh Big Sven, take a chill-pill. I call everyone bitches. It has nothing to do with gender.
*Gulp*. OK. Chill pill taken. But did it have to be a suppository?
OA, if you really call everyone bitches, then I take back what I said. If that's possible.
Here is Romney's full statement:
I take this as a call to abort kiddies born to single mommies, no?
