I run by those places on Roosevelt nearly daily (when I am not running Burke Gillman dodging out of control bikers) and those places mentioned are NASTY.

What kills me is that people have to live in such conditions while our Mayor decides not to build nearly enough affordable housing. Coupled with the fact many of these tenants who live in those places are single males and pretty much go to the bottom of the list of any housing projects.

Want to blame someone for the fires? Yeah, the slum-lord is part of it but so is the City of Seattle and a lack of leadership on the part of the Mayor.

the link for the lunch box LA Times prompted me for a log-in so no read, but i delved into reverie. being a brownbag kid not by choice, the 4th grade lunchroom was always a great art exhibition for me back in '79 - i loved the other kids' partridge family, star wars, charlie daniels band etc tin food holders.

hey, Jonah, lunch boxes can be a theme for our Food Bank vid. i'll stop over this morning to find their hours of giveaway cheese/apple whatever.

talk to ya soon,
garrett

To clarify, am I supposed to be all up in arms about Sisleyville? All reports indicate Sisley is a seedy character, but damn, he actually owns buildings poor people can afford. They're not pleasant to look at (and could be dangerous) but...poor people can afford them. So, what's the consensus? Do we hate Sisley or laud him for providing low-income housing when he certainly isn't required to do so.

To my knowledge anyway, the expansion of SCHIP is meant to help middle class kids. They and their families deserve/need help, but they're not poor.
