Recipe of the Day: Late Summer Romano Bean Salad (recipe by me; photo via Creative Commons)

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds green and yellow romano beans (available at farmers' markets)
2 pounds tomatoes
one green onion
1/4 cup fresh basil
2 tablespoons flat-leaf parsley

1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste
Splash of fresh lemon juice

Steam the beans in an inch of water until bright green but still crisp, about two minutes. Shock with cold water or dunk in an ice bath and drain. Place beans in a large bowl. Meanwhile, cut the tomatoes into bite-size chunks. Finely chop the green onions and herbs. Add to bowl. For vinagerette, pour the vinegars into a small bowl. Slowly add the oil, whisking constantly. Squeeze the lemon juice into the vinagerette and season with salt and pepper to taste. With a spoon, add as much vinagerette as desired to salad and toss. Chill until cold.

On the German plot: two of the conspirators were white ethnic Germans -- so much for ethnic profiling, as demanded by the right. And they trained in our ALLY Pakistan, not that enemy we had to overthrow, Iraq, or that other enemy we are itching to overthrow now, Iran.

In other words: the US approach to the War on Terror is stupid and counterproductive (produces terror in fact); the German approach actually works.

See, the funny thing is, if China were to invest in technology to reverse climate change, their economy would boom, and the demand for those technologies would leave the world healthier, and our economy in the dust.

For an example, see how American car companies have had to license the hybrid car technology the Japanese developed.

Pavarotti

One word says it all. Italian culture IS opera.

All operatic performances are sung in Italian not Arabic and all the commemorative garbage I bought from Eyman was made in China.

All terrorists suffer from compulsory education. Public schools = Public toilets.

I pray global warming would hurry up and arrive here in Alaska, I'm freezing my dingleberries off.

Piece out.
