So who's taking over Frizzelle's old job? Or is that not happening?

Wow. We really blew that out of proportion.

But who's going to write Ask A Mexican?

Just wanted to say that this website really is great, and The Stranger has become a stronger publication since the introduction of Slog...a testament to real-time journalism. Keep up the great work. And pie rules!

What about David and Josh's future at the paper? If not able to move up to editor et al, what keeps them around?

And I assume this means a pay raise, too, yes?

This is excellent news! Mazel Tov to Dan and Chris on their promotions. The Stranger clearly has the formula for online publications figured out and Slog will soon be the most visited online News Outlet in the U.S.

This proves that a strong Pro-Israel stance with a heavy anti-Christian bias is the right formula for America's digital age. Keep up what you are doing, you can't mess with success!

Shoot, Dan. Word on the street in the Deuce was that you'd be moving to the Ann Arbor News. . .

Cpl. Thomas L. Hilbert, of Venus, Texas, a small town 30 miles south of Dallas. Hilbert, 20, and two other soldiers serving with the 9th Cavalry Regiment based at Fort Bliss, near El Paso, died after their vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device on Sept. 6. Hilbert's sister, BillieJo Alexander, told the El Paso Times that her brother had already reserved a hotel room in Las Vegas to celebrate his 21st birthday with his family in January.

Gosh, I wonder if the Slog trolls are going to dig up Christopher's old pro-Iraq-war piece (to the effect that liberals don't support the troops and the U.S. should go to war in Iraq because it's our troops' job) and paste it in all Christopher's comment threads now. I mean, he's been getting off way too easily for that one all these years, compared to Dan (and Christopher never admitted he was wrong and acknowledged that the war was all his fault).

Wow, flashback. This post totally reminds me of those reorg emails they used to send around back in my days at Microsoft...

...These changes will better synergize our efforts in the areas of arts and news, and allow us scale up our drive to e-enable our content. In his new role, Chris is tasked with fast-tracking our game plan to be a world clas player in the ever changing media marketplace, to act on our deliverables, and to deliver on our actionables. Please join me in congratulating Chris on his new position.

I am also saddened to report that for reasons not even remotely connected in any way, shape, or form, to Chris's promotion - I mean, wow, what a total cosmic coincidence! - David Schmader and Josh Feit have decided to pursue opportunities elsewhere. We thank them for the tremendous contributions they have made, and we wish them the best of luck as they begin this exciting new phase in their careers.

@18
I'm not sure @17 technically qualifies as a troll. Seems more like a protester who interrupts the proceedings to call attention to his cause, which in this case is not entierly illegitimate.

Did Chris really write a pro-war article? Show me the link!

@19: Well, I'm too lazy to do the actual "work" myself, but I must admit it wouldn't go too far amiss as far as I'm concerned.

@21: Did he ever!

Whatever. I supported the war at the time as well. I can't point any fingers.

@21: Mister 17 found it necessary to hop on over to my blog and spam me there about my so-called pro-war views, while he doesn't know the first thing about me (ironically I've been shouting "Oil! Oil!" since day one): That's a troll to me.

But on topic: congrats to everyone who got promoted! And perhaps Mr Schmader et al are happy with the jobs they're doing now.

No problem, Mr. Poe. I would consider it an extenuating circumstance that you couldn't legally vote at the time, either (if your myspace page is accurate).

wow...the vitriol over at Regina's side is pretty over the top. But, if it's any consolation to Christopher, the more the weekly drones (current and ex) whine and yelp, the better off you look.

chris has MORE attitude than dan and less reason to have it. pretentious snarky condescending fad levels system overload. if ever there were a way for the stranger to become a charicature of itself, this is it. we're stuck with 10 more years of being lectured about not how we're not new york...

Chris is really over-rated and when was the last in depth piece written? He is better eye candy than Dan but as with all twinks just a twink with the same substance as a twink. (Think Go-Go Dancer with as much brain power)

Dan is annoying and obtrusive but he at least has brain power.

I think Chris F's book coverage has been pretty good-sometimes a little too cute but overall good. And as an old fart, I feel weird saying this but I do like that he's young. It's good for the paper.

Dan, does the power to declare war remain with you or does it now rest with Frizzelle?

Posted by Gabriel | September 20, 2007 9:04 AM

@30 - I have to admit I laughed at this:

"The new novel by Safran Foer: 'Everyone is Eliminated.'"

Posted by Levislade | September 20, 2007 9:14 AM
37

Huh Gabriel? Expressing an opinion about the war means I think I believe I have the power to declare? What's your point? That since Frizzelle didn't start the war it's OK for him to espouse the tired old "you're a traitor and a coward if you dissent in a way I don't approve of" line?

E.G.

I'm .... the only one who believes that the unsophisticated peace rhetoric I hear whenever I turn on the TV or go downtown is cowardly, irrelevant, and retarded.

Anyone who wants to bring the troops home doesn't support them. If you supported the troops, you'd support what they're doing, because they're doing it by choice.

I wrote, "and that supporting you means supporting what you're doing, a concept lost on most people."

Read it again folks, if you are against the war you can't support your loved ones or friends over there. You couldn't possibly think that military service is a honorable choice and that in a democracy the ultimate blame for ill-chosen or immoral wars lies not on the warriors but on us, you, me.
