So, if you were the head of a label, and the NY Times decided to do one of its 10,000-word Sunday magazine puff pieces on you...

Don't you think you just might pick one of your upcoming releases and hype the shit out of the group during your interviews?

I want to take this time here on this fine pre-Labor Day Sunday to thank the staff of The Stranger for introducing me to now The Gossip as well as The Avett Brothers.

You guys are opening my ears up to music that I'd likely have never listened to in my sheltered little world where I had already shunned the present music world for the past one of my parents; of the '60s and '70s.

Your suggestions have enlightened me - and helped me hear a better future.

So, thanks.

"Rick Rubin is listening. A song by a new band called the Gossip is playing, and he is concentrating." Nice lede, simultaneously terse and pompous, and calling a 8 year old band new because the writer hadn't heard of them before.

@6 - agreed.

And how about this gem: "the once lucrative album market has been overshadowed by downloaded singles, which mainly benefits Apple."

Is this the most credulous "reporter" on the planet? Do they have any idea what the markup is on a few MB of data? They're getting the same amount of money for infinitely reproduceable ones and zeros as they would for a hard copy of an album, and they're complaining? Insane.
