Slog - Comments on Still No Nightclub License

So, it used to be that the council was the butt of every competency joke. Now it's the mayor. He vetoed his own nightlife legislation today. That's cool. That's what we've been recommending all along. Looks like the he's given up on the issue....

Josh, I think Jakes's point was that considering that you've shafted Jean G. 3 times in the endorsement department, maybe you could acknowledge this time that she deserves to be reelected.

I realize that this is a stretch for you as the alternative newspaper, but ETS! already has the "we hate jean godden" territory staked out.

So far we have the stranger and eat the state on one side, and steinbrueck, conlin, sims, wcv, kclc, etc, etc, etc on the other.

And Joe Szwaja? Really? Szwaja is an embarrassment to Greens everywhere.

Just something to consider.

Sounds like it is tabled for the time being.
I doubt will have to wait until next year before the next nightclub screwup.
At which point the nightclub lobby will say it is just an isolated incident (again)and propose a commission be appointed to do nothing to interfere with profits (again).

Comment by Lynd Ward

I am new to Seattle and very confused. When murder, almost murder, slashing, name calling, broken bottles, and just general mayhem is happening in bar districts late at night - why do you think the Mayor does not no the public is unhappy?

The condo folks in Belltown say they are getting afraid in their own back yard. Older rich ladies, very powerful in any city.

And as a political proposition, the Mayor is supposed to cater to a handful of club owners to the very last drop/degree?

The Mayor and his advisers must ask often, where are the voters.

@18 The voters are in the nightclubs having fun. Alternatively, the voters are concerned about their civil rights and the way the mayor's office violated them while attempting to get his wretched license proposal passed. Either way I agree with Gitai... The voters are certainly NOT gonna be good to Nickels when reelection time comes round. Hell, I will personally campaign against him.
