Holy shit. Seriously?
Thanks for finally outing this. I have been venting about him being a "crock" performing a character for a while on here but no one seems to listen.
I think Sean is speaking of the phenomenon of ChrisCrockeranity, not of Chris Crocker the actual person (if such a thing even exists).
That this conversation is even possible is deeply disturbing.
yah and it sucked then too.
Chris Crocker is not Jonathan Caouette. I mean physically. In spirit, probably.
The two are very video-age Southern Gothic, recalling some Harmony Korrine character projected into a Tennesse Williams play perhaps. The difference is that Caouette had three dimensions and some deeply f'd up background lending himself a deeper character, the essense of "Found Video" even more precious than Crocker's 2D YouTube cause celeb. Catch up.
Yeah, and doing this kind of thing for an audience of yourself when you are 12 because you are exploring your identity is different - though I don't blame Crocker, however screwy the poor kid is - than trying to get a newish technological phenomenon in its own adolescence to propel you out of your (understandably desperate) situation, at 19. Plus Caouette is playing a character he knows or has invented rather than piling onto a media feeding frenzy (however sympathetically) over a person who doesn't exist. The internet, as Parker Posey so rightly said, ISN'T REAL. Same goes for celebrity culture and the alleged existence of "Ms. Britney Spears".
When gay Jewish filmmaker Jonathan Caouette was a preteen in Houston he created the footage became the genius of "Tarnation".
Young Jewish men creating identities and sharing them before the world is part of birthright as we are the sparks of divine light for the dark souls of the goyium.
I'm always interested in the work of Jewish artists like Caouette and whether or not he is also Chris Crocker, it's a tribute to Judaism that our fluid post modern identities float before the mesmerized goyium like divine gossamer released from the shattering of the vessels of light.
Erm, if he's Jewish, why does his Myspace page say "non-religious?" Where did you hear he was Jewish, Issur?
Though I don't know why I'm even bothering to respond to your inane babbling about the superiority of Jews over the "poor misguided goyim" (you'd think you'd learn to spell the damn word already, 'goyium?')
I saw tarnation and liked it. because you see someone as a person struggling, not a character being the height of overblown dramatic idiocy.
@9 You may not approve of the pomposity of the Jew-art-loving commenter 8...whatever Caouette's myspace reflects is one thing, but it's my understanding (I'm a goy) that if you're born Jewish, you're always Jewish. Whether you like it or not. Really.
I'm pretty sure this "Issur" guy is a white supremacist in disguise. And I was completely annoyed by Tarnation. The advantage of Chris Crocker is that you only have to watch him for two minutes at a time.
Thank you #9 and # 12
Issur is an idiot.
OMG, i think you are right !

Chris Crocker
omg, you're blind!
@11- My parents were a Catholic and a Protestant, but that doesn't make me either. Judaism is a religion, a faith, a set of beliefs, not an ethnicity or gender or something else that's more or less fixed from birth. Regardless of how anyone else wants to view it, if the guy doesn't identify as Jewish, then he's not, regardless of some bizarre attempt on the part of the religion to claim those who are born to its practitioners. Yeesh.
