Because one thing that would make Auburn more awesome is more traffic.

Yay.

(and by "yay" I mean "fuck I gotta get out of here.")

Fantastic. Just get them the fuck OUT of Seattle.

The Sonics need to get on a hallucinatory plane with Aaliyah and just fucking die.

Fly Seattle Super Sonics! Fly away and be free! You're all grown up now and ready to move out and live all on your own.

Don't let the moat, er, Lake Washington, splash you on the way out.

One down. Two to go.

Whoot! Whoot! Super Sonics! Super Mall!
NOT! Do the Pistons still play in Auburn Hills, Michigan?

This may be in everyone's best interest - less (no?) public coin, team stays in the region, alleviate weeknight traffic on game nights a bit.

At least, alleviate the traffic in Seattle a bit, who gives a rat's ass about traffic in Auburn.

right on we get to watch garnett and the city did not cave in. a win win i say.though theyre gonna have to increase bus service or extend the sounder cuz 167 is not going to be able to cut it on game days. i say send the storm to oklahoma, they suck, except for my girl lauren jackson who is good enough to play with the sonics.

GOOD news - mega bucks construction project - jobs and more jobs.

Parts of Seattle will just dry up and blow away while the hipsters sit and groan about everything they don't like - which is a long list.

Speculatively speaking, I could single-handedly beat the Sonics with one basketball, my penis, and a strong hit of Ritalin. They're that bad. Seriously.

Oh...you didn't know? Shame.

Don't they still need to get out of their Key Arena lease to make this happen?

Speaking of which, they might as well tear Key Arena down if the Sonics go. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Mr. Poe:
Here's your assignment for the week; reduce the overall annoyingness of your Slog comments by 50%. We'll sync up on Friday for a status report.

I think it sucks. I love the Sonics, and that's a stupid location for a new arena. And it's even more stupid for the city of Seattle to sit there with a vacant Key Arena. Those of you who think this is a good idea are crazy, or emotionally 12 years old.

Guys, you are so far off the mark it's not funny. This is a very bad, very untrue rumor. Check your facts. This is complete fantasy its NOT TRUE!!

Yeah, it's too stupid to be true. Let's hope so. It's more likely that the Key will be renovated which would ROCK!

Complete crap. Transparently untrue.

@11

You're lacking some serious details. What in the living fuck is your 'status report' going to report? The fact that I think you should score Cancer and die? Wicked awesome statistics. Have fun with that.

Before you reply with some half-ass mordant consummatealadongabomblabooshka-fest, keep in mind that you're a total idiot and that not a single person on the face of the planet would care if you killed yourself. Tonight. Just a thought.

Peace

You're off to a rather disappointing start, but I'm sure you'll bounce back. See you Friday, and don't foget that report!

Instead of building them a new stadium, can't we (the city) just BUY the damn team? Then we can tell them to be happy with their damn arena, they can't leave, and the city makes the profit instead of some rich assholes.

this might work out for the best. sonics fans still get the sonics and the bitchy people who got picked on by the basketball team in high school don't have to be involved any more.

Come on everyone!!! Mr Poe is single again and is sexually frustrated! Leave the child alone.

But we all need to try harder to make the Sonics want to leave Seattle so here is what we do. We get several hundred guys together to go to the next home game and have an all out gay orgy in the bleachers.

Can see some guy named Sean does not have his thinking cap all plugged in.

It will take YEARS to design, and build the stadium for the Sonics... major project.

IN THE MEAN, they will play at Key, per their lease thru 2010.

Duh ... Auburn will become the new Bellevue if Seattle keeps sending projects their way. No reason why Google and Microsoft and all the rest wouldn't rather deal with the Tribe ... and welcoming city. Which hotel chains will build first near the Stadium?

Point of info - the public sector bonds for the other two Stadiums are being paid way, way ahead of time -- just so all you worry wart grannies can be assured the finances are sound and hundreds of thousands of fans go to the games each year - ie. Dan and kid among them.

Oh what a horror, all those stupid fans, they choose baseball and football over the Block Music and beer gig. Not hip at all to do baseball or football and beer.

What else can we push south? Lots of space to Tacoma. Pack the Space Needle, need more green space at Seattle Center ...

#22 - dreaming of orgies on a Sunday night.

I bet you are afraid of the bathhouses.

All talk and no walk.

There are thousands of gay men in sports leagues in Seattle ... baseball ... swimming ... rugby ... and more ... of course you would not suck them off except under the bleachers.

#19 - Honey, what a civic grasp you have.

It is over, the new Sonics owners have called all bluffs ... amateur day is over.

Hitch to Auburn in the future for basketball.

@24, I have never met talking rectal plaque material before. BTW, stop hanging out at the bathroom stalls at the Convention center; it freaks people out.

A quick call to Sonics HQ confirms this is just a RUMOR. Today's press conference is hosted by the Muckleshoot Tribe...Sonics officials are not planning to attend. The meeting is to review a study about the *feasability* of building a stadium on the tribe's land. It's a far cry from a done deal.

I don't know from basketball, but I think that we should have a team if there are enough people interested. In fact, I think it would be something of a camp to allow people to come in off the street to tryout, and field a team that way. Sure, they'd lose every game, but you'd feel like you were actually rooting for something local, and not a bunch of neurotic millionaires.

However, I don't think you should tear down the coliseum. I like that building. I'm sure it could be repurposed somehow to allow for things that both hipsters and normal people like.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go ride the Portland Tram: the latest in a series of stately adventures I have chosen to engage in. I'll be returning to Seattle by train this afternoon. I trust someone will have orchids and a limo waiting for me at the station?
