When did Slog become the local TV news? Is it going to be a series of car crashes and live blogging police chases?

No, only if they have funny videos, @1.

I don't get why this is news. It sounds like a simple car accident. Unfortunate, to be sure, but not unlike fatal car accidents that happen several times a week in any big city. Why does the fact that one of the victims happens to be a cop make this news? From the initial report, it does not appear that the cop was on duty or performing any sort of cop function. Just that the EMTs recognized the police badge of an injured dude.

So what?

Car accidents are always "news" in the sense that it follows the industry dictum of, "if it bleeds, it leads". The fact that a police officer was involved just gives it an extra "hook".

And yes, it's still a tragedy too.

What a jerk to say that about someone who has died@! Did it EVER occur to you that family members who are googling for more info on the crash MIGHT just find this site???

Well they won't feel so bad if they do. What, uh, with all of the 'happy 9/11' comments and all. And technically, #3 is right. Regardless of how it makes you feel.

Dang, I didn't realize how many Slog readers have a soft spot for cops. Not me.

So nice to see how polite and articulate the kids contributing to the slog are these days. Any chimp can fling poop, and it impresses no one. I saw this wreck on my way in this morning. It looked terrible. So sorry to hear that someone died. I wonder if the 'media' would have paid so much attention to a fatal traffic accident if the victim had come from the faceless legion of working poor or better yet, an ethnic minority?
