Slog - Comments on Re: Nickels Veto

I did a flip post yesterday making fun of Mayor Nickels's veto. He vetoed the tortured nightclub license legislation because council amended it to the point that it didn't include a nightclub license. The council legislation, passed 6-3, essentially defeated Nickels's year-long push for a nightclub license. Nickels is mad about that, but his veto doesn't do anything to restore the license. And so I was ribbing the mayor for the pffffttt ending to his lame effort. He vetoed a veto of his license idea. Whoopdeee doo. There's still no license. The mayor's office didn't seem to get the...

The second part will be where he repositions himself as our Green Mayor by endorsing No on RTID/ST2 and calling for a Feb 08 ST2.1 vote.

word from City Hall about all this is that Nickels is just plain not very smart. If he can't ram something through, he has no ability to think creatively about how to compromise or work with others to make it happen.

The ironic thing is that he keeps using others' language in saying he wants a 'safe and vibrant' nightlife. Seems more like he wants quiet streets at night with no nightlife. Has he proposed one thing to support nightlife of music in Seattle? One? Anything?

And the hell is the so called "Music Office" on all this? Does that thing even exist anymore?

Josh - the issue is only dead 'till the next violent whatever outside some of the clubs that have been mentioned

Josh - the bars have a reprieve, thanks to Godden, who you folks kick around all the time

Josh - The Mayor is smart enough to know the veto is a good move. End it, come back later and start again. Who won, who lost, another day, who will care?

Josh - what happened to the Stranger's love affair with Licata?

Josh - you hype officials and then drop them into the no mention pit, curious. Licata is still an old commie.

Josh - what is this bizarre obsession with how fat the Mayor is? What does a childish put down have to do with policy?

Regarding "safe and vibrant"... Grouchy old people will regard anything at night deserving the name "vibrant" as a sin against their personhood. Maybe Nickels would prefer everything "vibrant" shut down at or before 9pm. Let's get a strict curfew on the books too, and also: no short skirts. Long, colorful, vibrant skirts are okay but not short skirts, they incite violence.

The mayor may be fat, but is he phat?

@3: I don't think "the issue is only dead 'till the next violent whatever outside some of the clubs that have been mentioned", I think the issue was dead before the license was proposed. And chastising at the media for reporting about public officials is pointless.

I for one was glad to see the cops actually showed up when one of our street guys whacked out in Fremont recently.

Nice to know they don't just push the street drunks out of downtown into the more residential neighborhoods ...
