Alphabetizing your records is weird and counterintuitive. Bad Company and Bad Brains records side by side? It’s like keepin’ your silverwear in the cupboard. I'm always lookin' for a WHAT to listen to, never a WHOM to listen to, if that makes sense.
Alphabetized within the genre is of course OK, and since they're YOUR records, there's no one to argue with your classifications, but still, it raises more questions the it provides answers.
I like to keep things filed on a "most convenient to reach based what I've been enjoying most, lately". That way things I need stay close, and everything gets rotated ‘round eventually, ‘cept stuff I just don’t ever listen too, which I can evaluate the importance of keeping.
What’s that? You want to hear what? Oh, I think I have that… hmmm…. Gimme like 20 minutes.
I am nervous about the state of Riz's collection. I hope his apartment is guarded by a pit bull with a stun gun.
I want riz to feed me chicken.
I can't stand 15 seconds of listening to Riz speak. A couple hours? The horror!
Since somebody else brought up Riz's voice, I have to ask. I tuned in to Expansions on Sunday for the first time in months. Has his voice changed?!? It's driving me crazy because there is something different going on...but I can't pinpoint it.
I always harbored suspicion that Riz was a tragic eccentric who lived in a beyond-dirty apartment and cooked whack food. Now I know I was right! Thank you.
I sort my CDs by color.
DJ Riz rocks! I miss the Riz Rollins era of the Stranger...
Public Intern! I have a request. Can you recreate the Tom from Myspace picture?
Dick: I guess it looks as if you're reorganizing your records. What is this though? Chronological?
Rob: No...
Dick: Not alphabetical...
Rob: Nope...
Dick: What?
Rob: Autobiographical.
Dick: No fucking way.
I sort my books by colour, then by author to try and make *some* sense.
I just don't like looking at a crazy-shit rainbow. The jumble of fonts (not to mention spine heights and widths) already makes me twitch.
Mr. Rollins is one of the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I know my comments might not make a change in the way that some people feel it is necessary to behave, but please. All you do when you decide to make fun of someone that you don't even know is to make fun of yourself. Publicly. This might be a li'l confusing to some folks, so I'll speak frankly. Haters? Suck it. Try to spread the love please. And have a nice day.
Riz plays the BEST music hands down on his late shows...I mean just incredible.
KEXP is cool and all but it's nothing like the best indie/alt/college radio (i love you KZYX). Riz, however, is like the best indie/alt/college radio. A civic treasure. Thanks for trying, Stranger PI.
Vic Acid is an EP by Squarepusher. Am I too late with that crucial info?
God, I could listen to Riz talk for hours. HIs voice is as soothing as it is fascinating.
Um, I worked at the Stranger for a million years a million years ago and never saw the U-District (actually Wallingford) HQ of the early days, and I can tell you that Riz's column spanned the two Cap Hill eras, both the Pike and the 11th offices, not sniffing a glimpse of that weird apartment where people didn't get paid and slept under the production desk.
@12: Ditto. Riz is an amazing person, kind to everyone he meets, ever encouraging of others, and very smart. I could hang with him for days. Rob, too. Haters have no idea who they're talking about.
But dude. I remember encountering that record collection when he lived out behind Cornish in that rickety house - sheeeeeeeeeeeeeesh. Public Intern, you have done a good thing. And you should go back.
(For the record, I currently sort about half my records by label, another 1/4 by genre, and the other 1/4 is scattered all over the place. At least, that was before I moved. You don't want to know what it looks like right now.)
Riz Rollins certainly IS a treasure... we in Seattle are very lucky to have him. I actually turn the sound UP whenever he does air breaks on his shows... the things he says are so kind and genuine. I had the pleasure of meeting him and Rob this summer. Very joyous for me!
BTW: the autobiographical organizational method works pretty well for me! Referring to the order I acquired stuff just seems to make sense. Of course, in this modern age I click the "Date Added" column on iTunes. Voila! Sorted. teehee Good job, Steven! Help him again if you can.
