Riz alphabetized his records once upon a time, but by the time I got there, they were in a state of disarray. There were LPs everywhere; in cardboard boxes, lying on the floor, and lining the walls on creaky shelves. Riz apologized for the clutter and offered to move some boxes so that I could have easier access to the records on the wall. I told him I was fine.... Bad Company and Bad Brains records side by side? It’s like keepin’ your silverwear in the cupboard. I'm always lookin' for a WHAT to listen to, never a WHOM to listen to, if that makes sense.

Alphabetized within the genre is of course OK, and since they're YOUR records, there's no one to argue with your classifications, but still, it raises more questions the it provides answers.

I like to keep things filed on a "most convenient to reach based what I've been enjoying most, lately". That way things I need stay close, and everything gets rotated ‘round eventually, ‘cept stuff I just don’t ever listen too, which I can evaluate the importance of keeping.

What’s that? You want to hear what? Oh, I think I have that… hmmm…. Gimme like 20 minutes.

But dude. I remember encountering that record collection when he lived out behind Cornish in that rickety house - sheeeeeeeeeeeeeesh. Public Intern, you have done a good thing. And you should go back.

(For the record, I currently sort about half my records by label, another 1/4 by genre, and the other 1/4 is scattered all over the place. At least, that was before I moved. You don't want to know what it looks like right now.)

BTW: the autobiographical organizational method works pretty well for me! Referring to the order I acquired stuff just seems to make sense. Of course, in this modern age I click the "Date Added" column on iTunes. Voila! Sorted. teehee Good job, Steven! Help him again if you can.
