In Chicago, those are called Philadelphia bankrolls; and in Philly, they're Chicago bankrolls.

And in Seattle, they're called Jonathan Zwickel's bankroll.

It's a pimp roll in Los Angeles (becuase anyone who knows pimps worth a damn knows that they're mostly poor and pathetic and love to floss).

There was this dude I knew in the joint back in the 80s everyone called "Dollar Bill" because he got caught with a pimp roll when he was booked into property and that embarassing moment became his legacy.

I've heard that exactly once (well twice, if you count this post), in approx 1988. I was babysitting and the mom came home super late with her male friend (hmm suspicious, husband was out to sea) and she instructed him to pay me. He said,"OK, let me get my Jewish bankroll" and pulled a bunch of ones out of his pocket. I thought that was such a weird thing to say it has stuck with me all this time.

In MO, it is called a "nigger roll".

Isn't the midwest great?

So the more generic term would be an Insert Ethnic Name Here Roll?

Years ago - and I mean 30+ years ago - I heard it referred to as a "Kansas City bankroll".

So far as I'm aware, this term goes back at least to the mid 1940's, but I have no idea about the etymology.

Who the hell carries cash anymore?

My Jewish bankroll, like most bankrolls, is a stack of plastic.

I've heard the hundred wrapped around a bunch of singles called a "Chicago bankroll," but that phrase died with the advent of the credit card.

It's a slender stack of plastic.

@12 -- "who carries cash anymore?"

People who buy drugs, sell drugs, and people who go to mom and pop Asian restaurants that do not accept plastic

Oh, and people who go to street fairs.

#9, I've heard that too. It was in an early '80's movie, can't remember for the life of me what.

When I was a kid in NW Ohio in the 60's, I heard rolls of one dollar bills called "Michigan bank rolls." Also, people from Michigan were considered to be lousy drivers - going way too fast! No idea where the derogatory stuff came from, unless it was some version of bigotry based on Detroit's proximity. Lots of racial prejudices in the Ohioans back then...

A _____ bankroll mocks people who pay in ones whether to skip out on tips or because they are frugal and feel a need to account for every dollar.

a Seattle bankroll is some hipster paying dollar by dollar to hold up the line or keep a cashier busy because they want to stretch out their disdain for the working class. AKA as the Passive Agressive Bankroll.

The movie was "My Cousin Vinny".

I would pay the hot cashiers at Uwajimaya dollar by dollar to spend more time in their pleasant company.

I am highly offended by this anti-semitic posting. We're living through another burst of anti-semitism in the press.

Once you allow anti-semitic humor, you open the floodgates. As Jews we are set apart by God and especially in these days we must keep Israel and our Jewish souls in our thoughts.

Issur, it's pure envy of the high holidays. The stores were all decorated for Rosh Hashanah, and all the goyim had to look forward to is Columbus Day

issur, if you were any more reactionary youd explode on contact. if a blog post qualifies as a "burst of anti-semitism in the press," then you must be a seriously sheltered jew.

sense of humor has forever been the key to jewish survival, whether during cultural assimilation or during countless attempts at eradication. its time for you to get one.

if you cant stand the joke, get out of the kvetchin. and please stop wearing your self-righteousness on your sleeve. its not a good look.

(thats your cue to call me "a self-hating jew.")

When you live in a racist white city like Seattle that won't even allow a Menorah in the airport, I think it's important to be vigilant about anti-semitism.

The shooting at the Jewish Federation of Seattle was a hate crime by someone who would not accept Israel as God's light to this world. All I am saying is it begins with anti-semitic jokes and next thing you know Jews are dying. No people have suffered more than the Jews and there has never been a more horrific shooting in Seattle than that at the Jewish Federation of Seattle last year.

menorahs at airports are just as tacky as christmas trees in department stores. why should we compete w the tasteless christians of the world? wheres the light and beauty in that?

there are many, many hate crimes that take place every damn day, issur. you belittle all of them by calling one more hateful or horrific than another. thats unfair and totally misguided. your vigilance sounds more like victim syndrome to me.

People or publications who say or use words that lessen the importance of our Holocaust are creepy anti-semitites. The Holocaust was not just another human catastrophy, it was the worst thing that ever happened to anyone. That is proven history and no one can question it. The Jews have suffered more than anyone other people.

The Stranger was the only publication in Seattle to demand a Menorah in the Seattle Airport and The Stranger has more Jewish writers than any other Seattle publication. It's Tikkum Olam that this publication even exists.

hey issy. Since you ppl have suffered so much (and feel you are so morally superior to everyone else just cos you’re a jew) why is it that you’re practicing genocide on the Palestinians ? Kinda a bit of hypocrisy there don’t you think ? Did you learn nothing from your treasured holocaust ? Well other than to use it as emotional blackmail to do whatever you want whenever you want to do it. Like murder the Palestinians on mass in your holocaust against them. And while I'm on the subject why is it that ANY criticism of you jews, no matter how valid, makes the person an instant anti-semite (like your nazi inspired genocide of the Palestinians for instance) Yet you jews can whine like mules and its ok. Not only whine like mules but practice nazi inspired genocide of the Palestinians. More than jews died in Hitlers gas chambers. Gypsies, homosexuals, political prisoners, Slavs, mentally retarded etc. were all gassed too. But they don’t count to you jews. Only jews seem to count. And doesn’t that attitude make YOU the racist mr my-jew-ass-is-superior-to-everyone-else-cos-I’m-a-fucking-jew. That’s the attitude that gets you and the decent Jewish people slapped into the gutter. Heres a hint, want to be respected and safe in society? Then get over your own racist BS feelings of superiority. People get tired of listening to assholes like you and your holier than thou bullshit. Or to paraphrase Winston Churchill (and he really did say this AFTER WW2) The reason that jews get wiped out from time to time is they ask for it. Your attitude is asking for it. We don’t owe you shit. Learn the lessons of your own history and stop doing the very same things to other people. Like the genocide against the Palestinians. It doesn’t make you superior, it makes you an asshole jew.

Seattle has tons of anti-semitism because of all the Christians. I try to have a thick skin when people criticize Israel, but it hurts because after my people suffered the Holocaust, we shouldn't have to listen to these kind of Christian idiots.
