Okay, does it really cost $115,000 for each new cop? I mean, I know that the cop ain't taking home $115,000 as a salary, but can someone please break this down for me?

I'm guessing that includes training, benefits, and equipment, plus the indirect costs that come up when you hire more people.

GREAT idea - cheap cops for the parks - let the real cops do the big time crime.

THREE CHEERS to the fat and silly and stupid mayor - oh sure, for sure.

Too fat is a political liability isn't it.

Just who would fuck the fat old mayor, my God, Adrian? Maybe ...

An FTE can cost almost their salary in terms of benefits, training, and administration, especially with health insurance being what it is.

I think we could go along way toward cleaning up parks if we did to people who defecate in the park what we do to dogs. Rub their nose in it.

The only way to get people who have no real fear of fines to stop fucking up, and/or fucking in, our parks is to make it more unpleasant to be there then other places.

That same money would pay for about 50,000 lots' worth of sidewalks in Seattle's pedestrian-hazardous north and south neighborhoods.

Has anyone correlated the obesity rate in Seattle to presence of sidewalks yet?

@6- Isn't sidewalk about a million dollars a mile? This money wouldn't even get you a half mile of sidewalks.

As to your second question, it'd be easy enough to figure that out. The PI had a report about zip codes and obesity. Find the most sidewalk-less zipcode (North Seattle near the Shoreline border, I'd bet) and see how it matches up. In fact, I'll go look now.

Why is it that damn pricey? That is about right for 6 Park Rangers. You have to consider the training, all the benefits etc. There are a couple of websites you can go to and calculate the expense of most professions. Your annual salary that you make is only part of the expense that any employer has to put out. (Social Security, employer contribution, Medicare, Employer contribution, Insurance, employer contribution)
