Nerd Alert

posted by on September 12 at 16:27 PM

It’s been a spectacular week for nerds. Not only was the title of the new Indiana Jones movie released:

But the diabetes-sweet trailer for the Iron Man movie burst onto the intarweb, and it uses a song by some band called Black Sabbath. Which is awesome.

You may now return to being too cool for school.

And a great trailer that is!

Cool song.

I pooped myself and spread it all over a stall at the end of an orgasm after I watched that Ironman trailer.

Oh yeah.

I don't usually disply my inner comic book nerdishness to the outside world, but the trailer for IM looks TOTALLY HOTT!

Casting Robert Downey, Jr. as the latent-alcoholic Tony Stark is sheer brilliance (I'm soooo happy Cruise finally lost interest in this project!), as is tapping Samuel Jackson as Muthafuckin' Nick Fury! Plus, the Adi Granov inspired production design looks like it's going to transfer very well from print to film.

This could be a much-needed shot-in-the-arm(or) for the Marvel film franchise after a so-so "Spider Man III", an execrable "Ghost Rider", and a ludicrous "Fantastic Four II".

Excelsior!

It just struck me that between this trailer and the Marvel Civil War, Iron Man is becoming a huge douchebag (personality-wise). Or has he always been this way, and I'm only just now noticing?

After I saw that trailer, I went right upstairs and played "Iron Man" on Guitar Hero.

I agree, having Robert Downey Jr. was an excellent choice for casting.

But I liked Ghost Rider. And the female lead for that didn't hurt ...

Nerdgasm. Using the Sabbath was goddamn brilliant.

Gotta admit though, I'm not crazy about the Indy title. It's a bit of a mouthful. Clunky. But I don't care that much! Karen Allen!!! :)

@5

It's my understanding that Stark has pretty much always been a douchewad. But then, what can you expect from a billionaire alcoholic with anger management and daddy issues? Especially one who's been paralized like 4 times, had his nervous system taken over by some aliens, attempted to take over the world (Illuminati), been gang raped by the Hulk (World War Hulk), et al? Stark is not a man with a happy life story.

Shit, he was to wear the stupid Iron Man suit just to keep that shrapnel from cutting his heart in twain.

I am a recovering Indy fan. My god that is a terrible title for a Indiana Jones movie. Crystal... skull... kingdom... all in one?

Good God, that Iron Man trailer was a letdown. I'd been under the impression this was going to be a classy production before seeing the trailer, based on the great-sounding cast.

The trailer music and editing made it look like one of those shitty movies I have to suffer through with my kids, before the latest Pixar movie or young fantasy adventure, with Cuba Gooding Junior falling down, a talking/farting dog or an outhouse exploding.

But "Iron Man" wasn't about Iron Man, it was about The Iron Man. (Now that's a nerd alert.)

The preview wasn't as "awmygodisthisgonnabegreat" as I hoped. But with Robert Downey Junior *and* Jeff Bridges, there's zero chance that I won't go see it on opening night.

@5: No, Stark's _always_ been an arrogant douchebag asshole. You're just now noticing.

Surprised the Nerd alert did not go off when they announced who the new Spock is going to be in the upcoming Star Trek Film (and they have also cast the new Chekov as well).

Another horrible movie from a franchise that died with Roddenberry.

Whatever. DS9 was the bomb.

@17:

I hear you, but I think if anyone can reinvigorate the franchise, JJ Abrams is a great choice.

I'm just crossing my fingers in the hopes that Timothy Olyphant ("Deadwood") gets tapped to play Kirk.

And now there's word that Russell Crowe has been cast to play the "baddie", so really, things are looking better and better for this film to exceed both audience & fan expectation.
