That looks like the "Faces of Meth" poster at the DMV.

Those are great mugshots. The lady on the top left (Miss "Anal Cavity") is pure defiance. The rest all have the look of, "You mean, that was illegal?!?!?"

One of my favorite things about white supremacists is how many of them look like they were scraped off the bottom of the gene pool with a putty knife.

Did you know that toothpaste was invented in West Virginia?

And, do you know how you can tell?

Otherwise, it would be called teethpaste.

Damn it, Dan, you edited the post without citing the edit. It's only proper form to actually announce any changes to a post once posted with "EDIT:", except perhaps for minor typos.

A sling-along!

"Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mtn's, Shenandoah River...Country Roads, take me home, ERRRRVCK!!
wait up, there's a reason I've never gone back to live in me ole toddler stomping grounds. The head girl and guy who humiliated the Abu Graib prisoners were from the county I lived in! EEEEEKKK! or FRREEEEEKK! that's me in the corner.

Hey, BOAT plays the triple door tonight!
Tullycraft has a new album!

I'll give a call to NPR's "Mountain Stage" in Charleston WVA and see if they have openings this winter for water vessel themed bill.

Also, word I get from some old school REI folk is that many climbers vacation/ascend Seneca Rocks near the Maryland border because they have distinct rockfaces unlike here in the NW.

But yeah, that's awful. Those mugshots were the scum I had to encounter sometimes during pre-teen years

Pertinent comments - but - genetics is the science

and inbred is the reality in the "old"
South in poor rural areas

going back 10 generations of screwing cousins

they look alike, cause they are related and all the recessive genes are causing havoc

The difference between West Virginia and other parts of the "Heartland" is that elsewhere, these people would have gotten away with it, and maybe the police would even have charged the victim with crimes against the perpetrators. See the recent fiasco in Louisiana.

Also, Dan, I'm curious why you apply the term "Heartland" to West Virginia, as it's never really been a beneficiary of the mythology of the great North American interior. The coasts shit on West Virginia; the Midwest shits on West Virginia just as fiercely.

It depressingly doesn't surprise me that this went down in Logan, as that place is an economic sacrifice zone for the benefit of energy companies, and the racist methheads run rampant. Any countervailing cultural force that might have once been there has escaped to greener pastures, and extremely aggressive drug commerce has become the de facto economic choice for thousands of people in the absence of any real opportunity.

I'm glad these deranged fucks got caught and will be punished, and that the victim is free from that nightmare. But really, your flippant cultural framing of this appalling travesty is lacking some serious nuance.

And yes, thanks for the post Dan - as we all know Brittany Spears lack of talent is the BIG news, or is it Paris Hilton's dildo choice?

NOT horror hate crimes such as this.

Let's hope this poor woman is not now forced to bear any children from this multiple assault. Pro choice, you bet, and rape is one reason why.

West Virginia is one of the most beautiful states in the Union. It, like almost all other states, including Washington, has undesirables. How many of you who are passing snobbish, presumptious judgement on the state as a whole have spent time there?

@ 24

Uh, West Virginia is NOT the South. In fact, they became "West" Virginia when Virginia wanted to secede and they wanted to remain in the Union.

26

Orv, you can never have too much of a hard-on. Doesn't the package say to consult a doctor if it persists after 24 hrs?

What do you think of that Roches song on my blog? Before that album, when Suzzy came along, the other two sistahs put out "Seductive Reasoning" in the '71 or some year, about the time that Paul Simon discovered these Park Slope-ish girls. Roy Halee produces a lot of their albums like the S&G miss robinson stuff. Facts, reason, Proof, blah blah, anyway, Seduc Reas is a album that's kind of an ode to Appalacia. enjoy

Isn't W. Virginia where Deliverance was filmed?

@ 21,

Yeah, Washington State definitely has it's share of undesirables as well, and meth. To point to all of W. Virginia is ridiculous. It's like saying everyone at the Stranger is into bestiality and getting fucked by barn animals.

What I meant by heartland...

Politicians use the term to mean "Anyplace in the United States that isn't 'urban,' with 'urban' roughly defined as a city with more than 250,000 residents."

I appreciate the explanation.

Just as some interesting, if tangential background info on the location; Logan County actually went for Kerry three years ago. Its public health profile (longevity, disease rate etc) is similar to that of Tajikstan. It was the site of the Buffalo Creek coal-slurry dam collapse 35 years ago that killed 118 people and obliterated three towns.

It's hilarious how they manage to work in the phrase "illegal immigran" into virtually every news headline on their homepage.

http://readthis.wordpress.com/

I'd love to see their report on other news:

"In sports, 8,600 illegal immigrants were among the 28,572 on hand to see the Mariners defeat the Orioles 5-3. Tonight's weather, overcast with a chance of thunderstorms, most likely caused by negroes."

In other Virginia News--a gay man was brutally beaten to death by a two men and two women on the property of my friends grandmother...while his cousin attempted in vain to save the boys life. In response to the local police force doing absolutely nothing, thus allowing these murderers to walk away unpunished, my friends 81 y/o grandmother got on the horn the A.C.L.U among others. Here is hoping that this crime also comes to light--I know us gays already had Mathew Shepard...but this shit is still happening! Um, and Virginia? Fucking Scary Town.

That wordpress site was horribly offensive. I know you were just linking to the story but the comments on that page were so disturbing that that site shouldn't get a boost in web traffic from you. An excellent example of the dark souls within all goyium. I'm sure these idiots practice toxic Christianity.

Judaism simply never creates killers or any kind of ugly evil human beings. Muslims must denounce their religion, as must Christians. Judaism is the only religion of justice and peace on this planet.

I was all for upholding your logic until you decided to use the word "retard" and refer to the Special Olympics in a less than respectful manner.

You want to complain about how people talk about the state you love and stereotype the people who live there, and yet you decide to act like a hypocrite and do the same of mentally impaired and disabled individuals. Shame on you.
