WTF? Sean, you are whacked. It's all over now, baby.

GOVERNOR GREGOIRE ENDORSED DAVID DELLA. GOVERNOR MIKE LOWRY ENDORSED DAVID DELLA. GOVERNOR GARY LOCKE ENDORSED DAVID DELLA.

Then there are those organizations, like Washington NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League) and Seattle Gay News, that ENDORSED DAVID DELLA.

Oh yeah, there are local elected officials, like King County Executive Ron Sims, who ENDORSED DAVID DELLA! Speaker of the House Frank Chopp ENDORSED DAVID DELLA!

State legislators representing all corners of Seattle have ENDORSED DAVID DELLA! State Senators Ed Murray, Margarita Prentice and Erik Poulsen; and State Representatives Helen Sommers, Eileen Cody, Mary Lou Dickerson, Phyllis Kenney, Eric Pettigrew, Sharon Tomiko Santos, Zack Hudgins and Bob Hasegawa.

I realize that not EVERYONE in Seattle has jumped on the David Della bandwagon, because some people have to be different. Hell, 9% of Seattle voters even went for George Bush. But what planet is Sean Howell from? Planet Bush=Burgess?

The last thing Seattle needs is another fraud in public office. Della is the real thing, and maybe that's why he's racked up so much support from such diverse quarters. What does Burgess have? Concerned Women for America.

Exactly! Another four years of Della on the council is another four years of having a worthless councilman. He's done nothing, absolutely nothing, for the last four years, and given the size of the council, every member has an opportunity to provide leadership. Shit, Sally Clark has done more with her truncated term than Della has in a full one. Get Della out and Burgess in.

And Burgess, if you're reading this, I expect a fucking Nixon in China moment with the fucking Guild if you get elected. Get those motherfuckers to agree to real accountability, or expect me to campaign for your opponent in four years.

Don't forget that David Della is the reason that we don't have the lovely Heidi Wills on the Council anymore.

David does nothing worthwhile. Bottom line. What's better? A placeholder Councilmember who contributes nothing or a motivated new Councilmember who made a bad mistake in the past and has MORE than apologized? Burgess is so freaked out about being seen as conservative now that he's going to turn into a "wacka-doodle-doo hippie enviro radical" to make up for it! (Thanks, Sandeep)

burgess most certainly voted for Bush in last election, otherwise he surely would have answered the question when asked by the Stranger.

therefore, he has catastrophically bad political judgement, in addition to being a total asshat.

I'm a democrat and I don't tell people who I voted for in the Governor's race does that mean I voted for Rossi? Stop being simpleton's no one has to tell anyone who they voted for that's their right. For godssake be more than a one issue voter.

It's not surprising that Locke would have endorsed Della, as they share the same political patron, Ruth Woo. Many of the other electeds you mention as endorsers, Della Campaign Staffer @ 2, are either (a) Asian-Pacific Islander themselves, or (b) not API but deathly afraid of pissing off Ruth Woo.

@5 You CAN'T apologize for being involved as deep as he was and expect to win in Seattle or just about any city. No more than someone could apologize for helping out the Klan. The carnage that Tim Burgess helped to inflict on the lives of thousands of honest Americans is irrefutable and bringing that legacy to office is far, far worse than trying to remove a councilmember that you feel “does nothing worthwhile.”

Has anyone ever thought about asking Della what his feelings are about these liberal values/issues that we hold so zealously...er, dear...to our hearts? He's a fucking Catholic. In case you've been living under a rock for about 1000 years, Catholic values ain't no walk in the park either. Maybe somebody outta ask Della what he thinks about abortion and gay marriage and why he RARELY goes to LGBT events that he's invited to and why BIG GAYS are supporting Burgess.

Sure many politicians including Clinton and Obama "publicly" oppose gay marriage and some liberals, because of their religion, may personally oppose gay marriage but never articulate it.
HOWEVER, this took things to a far different level. He helped raise millions of dollars for Concerned Woman for America. He was instrumental to the WACKO groups who got George Bush re-elected in 2004 plus he probably voted for him. Quit trying to minimize this.
I can tell you one thing for sure is that ultra conservative voters in Seattle are having a fucking orgasm over being able to elect this guy and King County Republicans do excellent job of covertly marking their candidates in non-partisan races to their voter contingency.

Posted by in god we trust | September 13, 2007 3:40 PM

He's just the way to get more Republicans elected in our blue city, by pretending to be liberal. If Tim gets elected, isn't that a stepping stone for other offices?

@11, you're talking out of your ass on several fronts. First, you have no idea whether or not Burgess' firm's work resulted in "raising millions" for CWA. The contract was, by corporate PR-outsourcing standards, quite small and I'm skeptical it would have had that kind of impact on CWA's bottom line. Second, it's ludicrous to suggest that Tim Burgess, personally, by virtue of the fact that his company was doing work for a conservative group, was "instrumental" to Bush's re-election. Finally, your intimation that Burgess, a Democrat, voted for Bush in 2004 is speculative in the extreme. The guy probably didn't answer the question because he thinks, like many Americans, that the question of who one has voted for is and ought to be a private matter, in contrast to totalitarian regimes where ballots are not secret.

On a previous post, I mentioned that I attended the GSBA Candidate Forum yesterday. Della and Burgess were both there.

Burgess was asked specifically about his past support for CWA and his current views on gay marriage. He basically gave the same answer he gave to The Stranger. I take his response at face value, and basically believe him. Still, he left me completely cold. While I don't really hold his past CWA thing against him, I am far from an enthusiastic supporter. I don't really want to vote for him.

On the other hand, Della is an asswipe. The more I see him and hear about him, the less I like him. He also left me completely cold.

At this point, I don't like either one of them. Unless someone can think of a compelling reason to actively support one of them, I am inclined to simply leave my vote for City Council position 7 blank, and hope someone better comes along to run for that seat in 4 years. Ugh.

I am not a big Della supporter, but so long as there are serious question marks surrounding his opponent Burgess, I will stick with the devil I know who has done nothing substantially good OR bad in his term on the council. Like others I don't like the campaign he ran against Wills and I especially don't like how he opted out of heading the City Light committee after slamming Wills on energy. While these might otherwise be reason to vote against Della, for me they are not reason enough to vote for Burgess.

Corliss - the above post is utter baloney.

I have seen Dave at LGBT all over the place for years.

It is Mr. Burgess that has never been seen anywhere - oh, wait, a year ago he decided to run, and, gee whiz, became a big time community fan after taking in all the hate money.

You are either stupid as rock or just a troll for Burgess.

Posted by kelper | September 13, 2007 5:58 PM

Don't like either one. Della bs on City Light and Burgess in general. But maybe if organs like the stranger would elevate the conversation, we would get better candidates. The attacks on candidates for long ago actions or overdoing stoties in general may discourage people from entering politics.

Burgess is quoted as saying his work on direct mail brought in over ten million - but the amount is of no interest.

He took blood money and worked for hate mongers attacking people with AIDS and the gay community non stop.

Off the stage Burgess.

Dan,
Something very strange happened last night at the 34th District Democrats meeting. Della was on the agenda to seek our endorsement. However, shortly after Della got there, he talked to the Chair and asked that his name be removed from the agenda as he wasn't going to ask to be endorsed, and then he left.

The 34th District Democrats endorsed Burgess back in July and voted down Della's endosement at that time. The rules let candidates who didn't get endorsed at the first endorsement meeting to come back and try again at the endorsement meeting before the General.

I've been a member for a long time and cannot recall any other candidate ever doing what Della did last night.

SEAN - your candidate caused the death of some gays, esp, youth, and added to the misery of many gay people, and AIDS patients, all over America.

Is the record he has one reflect the by laws of P FLAG - or - do you really care anymore?

Ask some of the older politically active P Flag folks about Concerned Women of America and the hate mail they barraged the USA with.

Horrible beyond belief. Why hasn't the Stranger printed some of it.

Make you cry. Horrible. I got on their list years ago, sent all the mail the Task Force.

But all that is just OK with the P Flag guy .... for shame.

ABOVE, simply put, he does not need them.

After Della is elected the 34th will become the joke Demo dist in the Seattle area.

And I suspect receive sanctions. You don't vote for hate mongers and R. supporters and keep you name good in Dem. party politics.

Who the hell is leading the 34th?

I'm with #1.

Concerned Women of America is really, really awful. But just as a lot of voters here seemed to be able to separate Jamie Pederson the gay-rights activist lawyer from Jamie Pederson the K&L Gates - former home of Jack Abramoff, current home of Slade Gorton - corporate attorney... Burgess had clients too. He says he didn't agree with them then, and doesn't now.

Della, meanwhile, backed an elevated rebuild, a much more squarely relevant issue to the City Council. And, he's now proudly telling voters just that he opposed the tunnel.

Hey Stranger, have you asked Burgess about his position on the Viaduct?

Posted by qwerty | September 13, 2007 6:17 PM

But, unlike #1, no way I'd vote for Rossi. WTF?

Doug two @ 21
Ivan Weiss is the Chair of the 34th District Democrats and he has endorsed Della. Weiss is also running as a candidate for the State Rep. seat that will be opening up in the 34th due to Sen. Erik Poulsen's upcoming resignation.

Trey -so what is the problem with Asian - Pacific Islander supporting a political leader of Filipino immigrant origins?

Little white boy angst?

This Asian rim city needs to reflect all communities.

I recently for the first time met Mr. Burgess at an event, stone cold. The personality of cold fish belly.

My parents are the board of pflag. Before I came out to them and shortly after they were still hate mongers. They have supported some of the worst presidents in history. They loved Ronald Reagan. Now they March in pride parades. Whatever Burgess felt before, he wants marriage equality. This issued aside, look at who endorsed della. Christine Gregoire, madame pro cars. I don't think you realize what you "let the devil della stay in office" people are saying. Della is the worst vote in council and he will chair important committees. No more power for della. He has got to go.

for the Love of Christ --- above

You scare me more than your parents.

Gov Gregoire has helped pass TWO pro gay pieces of legislation.... after 30 years of stalemate. You are new to Washington?

The most PRO GAY Gov. in the history of this state.... by far. As Attorney General hired dozens of Gay and Lesbian staff.

She went to the floor to personally lobby for the Cal Anderson/Ed Murray bill, kept all the Dems. in line, passed with one vote to spare.

What an un informed ass you are.

Dave is a long time activist, always gay friendly. Why do you believe the Burgess whisper campaign - a PR trick started about 7 months ago?

Look at the facts, follow the blood money.

You want me to vote for a pawn of the hate mongers cause you heard something? The whisper smear. Get a grip.

I wouldn't trust anyone who doesn't post with their real name. It is all political spin and false information. I am not sure why people love David Della. Can anyone explain it? I wish his supporters would run anyone else in his place. I didn't even mean for my above letter to be posted. It was a private appeal to the powers that be at the stranger-seems if you email Dan you're fair game. It is okay though. If we don't get anyone decent on city council we can just tear down the viaduct with our bare hands, create more open space by spreading wild seeds out cars windows, rely on auto centric minds to plot our mass transit future, and patrol the streets ourselves.

I don't work on the Burgess campaign and we did not go to highschool together. I just like his plan for the city. I cannot say that about Della. I don't like his big ass ugly plan for Seattle. This is the most important race of the election.

The equality matter and Burgess is not an issue. Do you trust Rep Joe McDermott of 34th? He said "[Burgess] is a full supporter of marriage equality. And I'm a full supporter of Tim". Joe isn't an unknown republican with a secret agenda. He is a Seattle democrat.

This should not be the issue of this race.

Tim wins my vote for the environment, transportation, and housing. Look at him, he is a candidate who values a green vibrant Seattle and he is not going to take rights away from anyone. He will protect them.

This is what I like:
www.timburgess2007.com/plan.htm

It is a tight race and the best candidate needs support.

"The equality matter and Burgess is not an issue" - tossing aside the crux of the last week's debate, not so easy chum.
CWA money- it is the issue for the entire city. Make no mistake.

Mc Dermott knows the PR Burgess, and I think got hood winked.

Burgess does not deserve a leadership position in city govt. He reminds me of Adolph Eichmann - just had to add that. Cold and calulating, very cold.

A friend just called who is the loop on such things ----

Councilwoman, out lesbian/feminist, Sally Clark has endorsed Dave Della.

Most likely very influenced by the hate mail stuff, and swayed by the NARAL endorsement of Della.

The women voters of Seattle want a very pro choice political leader - no PR spin doctor stuff. NARAL is a strong voice to all progressives in this state and city.
