Fresno CA almost made the same goof when revamping the local buses to be more like a big city.

Fresno Area Rapid Transit wasn't the best idea for a name though.

I grew up riding SCAT too, in Santa Barbara county (California). South Coast Area Transit, I believe...

NO ONE beats Kentucky tho, for kick-ass names. I visited the state once; the only thing I remember is the bus system: TANK. Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky.

SCAT also stands for Sarasota County Area Transit, where I grew up. Amazingly, as a kid I don't think the bus system was the butt of many jokes (um, so to speak), 'cause nobody actually *rides* the bus there.

In Canberra (in the Australian Capital Territory), they have the Australian Capital Territory Internal Omnibus Network (ACTION). Whoever thought of that one deserves a medal.

The college I went to was previously the Western Australian Institute of Technology & Commerce (WAIT & C), before becoming just WAIT. When it became a university, it was originally going to be called the Curtin University of New Technology (CUNT), until someone spotted the problem, and dropped the 'new'.
