Anyone ask him what the Iran war would be about?

That's the Conservative douche-baggery I would expect to hear from Alan Greenspan. He presented "War for Oil" as the justification the Administration should use, and now is just "saddened" that they didn't pick his argument.
Taken out of context, the original quote was way too hippy-dippy to be from Greenspan's brain.

"Anbar Al" keeps going further and further down the rabbit hole:

"He devotes chapters to each of the major economic challenges facing the U.S. and the world... Rising income inequality could undo "the cultural ties that bind our society" and even lead to "large-scale violence."

Do ya think the Republicans will make him dig his own grave before they shoot him?

Cue Kucinich inserting a (seitan) foot in his mouth.

Oil and the security of Israel matter to every person on the planet. As we prepare to attack Iran it's important to get the public in the right mindset to see it through.

The Stranger did an excellent job of banging the drums of war for the attack on Iraq, and I believe more stories about Gays being hung in Tehran and women being forced to wear head scarves could soften up the liberal opinion makers so an Iran invasion could go smoothly.

Permanent American airbases in Iraq are worth all the effort and lives lost. Israel and America can use these bases to keep Israel strong and get at the oil.

The Kabbalistic concept according to which "sparks" of holiness tightly connected to "shells" of impurity are waiting to be let free is at play here in Iran. Only the fire of Merkava chariots over evil Iran will release the fires of purity and allow Israel to take her true place in the world. Rosh Hashanah blessings to all and much blessings to The Stranger in the coming year.

They already forced him to "amend" his "choice of words".

He was right the first time.

@5: either that's deeply ironic or you're serious. either way, its not funny.

"unfortunately, we can't talk about oil"?

BECAUSE YOU KNOW THAT THE AMERICAN PUBLIC WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT IT, THEN - LET ALONE TONY BLAIR. FUCKING WAR CRIMINAL IDIOT NARCISSISTS. IF YOU'D PULLED IT OFF, I MIGHT HAVE APPRECIATED IT IN A MACHIAVELLIAN WAY. BUT YOU FUCKED UP EVERYTHING, AND SCREWED OUR HEGEMONY. FUCK YOU, FUCK YOUR WIVES, AND FUCK ALL YOUR OVERPRIVELEDGED HELL SPAWN. FUCK YOU.

Did anyone catch him on 60 minutes yesterday? He's created a "SEC speak" that can be used to get out of any situation. It's kind of amazing.

SCREW policing the world! Seriously, I am sick of the expense and the resulting blowback of hatred. I say dismember ALL bases outside of US Territory and let the rest of the people just wipe themselves out. Cut our reliance on foriegn oil and just do trade with other nations and help out nations should natural disasters happen. PERIOD! End this fucked up imperialism for good.

And for the argument that there is evil in the world that want to kill us I have to say this: My generation has LOST social security when we retire and have seen the US build the LARGEST and MOST POWERFUL military force the world has ever known. So all those "evil doers" who want to come after us, bring it on! (could not resist that one) But you know what? If we stop fucking around in everyone's back yard they won't attack us here.

Until we change, we deserve EVERYTHING we have coming and probably more.

Something in a similar vien on page 341,

"I'm disappointed that it's politically inconvenient to admit that the administration is stripping away liberties and freedoms in order to subvert political dissension and promote the enslavement of the poor and middle class. Having to speak to the fiction of a "war on terror" tends to interupt one's afternoon nap. Note to Andrea, promote the idea that liberal rags write articles about how passe and ineffective protesting is."

The token outspoken conservative at my art school always said the same thing as Greenspan- The war should be for oil; it's a legitimate reason to invade. So this comes as no surprise to me.

What is kind of funny to me is that Greenspan's philosophies make a lot of sense to me, in a bizarro-world way. Based on the presumption that American-style capitalism is a good thing, then his approach is sound and reasonable and very wise.

It's a bad presumption though- pure Capitalism is mad fucked-up and totally unsustainable, which is why I'm against conservatives on almost every issue.

Don't let any of these people call themselves conservative, they are radical and maniacal at best.

Greenspan has a new book out today which will bring the next wave of the blame game for the war, the economy, the failures.

If this war was about cheap oil, man did they blow it. But I guess they blew it no matter which of their stated goals you judge it by.

Look, if Dick Cheney calls you up to invite you on a hunting trip after you make headlines for something you said about the Bush administration, you immediately begin back pedaling.
