Well, there are a lot of potential young voters getting blown up in Iraq right now, and some of them aren't so happy about it. Perhaps the Democrats might consider looking into that sometime.
11% more young people voted in 2004 than did in 2000. If turnout could increase again in 2008, the Dems would be in much better shape.
All polls show that voters - young ones included - are paying much more attention to the election than the same time in 2003. So the chances are high that turnout will increase again.
People should help out with efforts to register young voters at college campuses. UW is doing a big push right now.
Instead of a "charm offensive" maybe the Democrats could you know do what they said they were going to do (which is why they got elected in the first place) Like GET US THE HELL OUT IF IRAQ!!
i'd like to get rid of all my student loans please
I have an idea, they should give out free pizza during election week. College students will do anything for free pizza. Way to go, Dems! Buy their vote! (and send ME some pizza too)
Maybe they could, like, do stuff?
Charm offensive, schmarm offensive.
Concrete things to win younger voters:
1. Get us the F' out of Iraq.
2. Deal with the spiraling cost of housing.
3. Increase wages among workers who aren't CEO's.
Oh, and free Ring Dings.
charm us with better interest rates for our student loans and help with our credit card debt that we assumed in order to survive to get that degree.
@8 - it's called a contract that you signed. Unlike the Gay Old Pervert party, Dems believe in fiscal discipline and balanced budgets.
Their charm is offensive.
I'm with the Fix Our Fucking Student Loans Already crowd.
As for Will's comment @9. Contracts can be as abusive as a marriage gone violently wrong. Sub-Prime Mortgages, anyone? Pay Day Loans? Let's look at the real effects on society, and make the change from that perspective, not this corporato-individualist bullshit. A little amnesty would free up a lot of people to do a lot more good in the world, instead of remaining chained to Fannie Mae.
It would also help to lower the cost of tuition so students don't have to borrow so much money in the first place. Increasing federal financial aid and Pell grants wouldn't hurt either.
You mean like, oh I don't know, Pell Grants?
Bush and the Red Bushies killed those.
'Hey, as a thanks for appeasing our hollow whoring, let's whore to you some more!'
then let us get married.
