Do yourself a favor and learn IPA; quit using that horrific American phonetic alphabet and you'll have a much easier time in the future. According to the OED, it's praim(schwa)r (or PRIME-ur in pseudo-phonetic typing). PRIM-ur (prIm(schwa)r) is NEVER "correct".

@1 - I'm pretty sure that was a joke, but who knows? They'll probably say it was a joke even if it wasn't, so I guess we'll never know.

So, what are people wearing to this thing? Would I be out of place in a suit?

Jason, are you saying I'm wrong? (That it's PRAIM-er?) I looked at the OED but took the pronunciation from AHD. I pledge to learn IPA just as soon as I have a spare afternoon.

Both pronunciations are acceptable in American English, but the latter is never correct in British English. I prefer the British pronunciation myself. And the "i" in the Latin word "primarius" was probably pronounced like how Americans say the letter E.
