Email of the Day

posted by on September 14 at 9:12 AM

This actually came yesterday, but I was out. The subject line read: “And Ron Paul is… who?”

It continued:

Hi,

Who the hell is this Ron Paul guy? I have seen a million signs and flyers for him all over town. I even saw what appeared to be chalkings on the ground saying something about this Friday.

What is going on? Can you guys do some sort of piece on this?

Thanks,

Colin

Yeah, get on it guys. Why haven't you written thousands of words about this Ron Paul person in print and/or the blog? What, did Ru Paul decide to go back to being a man and run for President? This is news!!!

Ohmygod there was a huge posse of Ron Paul nuts holding signs and hanging banners off the pedestrian overpass at 80th on I-5 last nite. I couldn't believe my eyes.

He's just the latest idiot that libertarians and 9/11 truthers have globed onto. Just ignore him and he'll be gone in a couple more months.

Counting down till basement dwellers start asking us to check out Ron Paul and see what we think.

I hope the Cult of Paul isn't successfully duping many liberals into backing the guy. Antiwar position aside, he's just your garden-variety right-wing crank - he's pro-life, wants to destroy the UN and abolish the Federal Reserve, and believes global warming is a myth.

The hipsters love him because he seems so cool - "He's on YouTube!" one of my hipster acquaintances said. Ugh. If they only knew.

Ron Paul has some interesting ideas, but he's staunchly pro-life, anti-UN, anti-science AND FROM TEXAS, PEOPLE!!! (no offense to Mr Schmader, who may or may not claim Texas as his birthin' spot). Anyone who votes for a candidate proposing to ammend the Constitution to bend to their religious mores is an asshole. Bleh.

ron paul wants us out of iraq & the drug war ended. which makes him the sanest republican in america.

@3,

Has anyone seen the two of them in the same place at the same time? Didn't think so.

He is a sane Republican? What the hell is that? Sorta like the Nazi's who were not totally on board with Hitler's plans. You know, the moderates in the National Socialist Party?

Ron Paul for a really ugly and scary America!

@8: I have a feeling that if young Colin can master the interwebs enough to type "Ron Paul" in an e-mail, he can type it into a Google search box.

No, I think Colin is hoping the Stranger will put their clout behind an editorial piece on Paul, one that puts all this vague hipster cultishness to rest by outlining Paul's actual record and getting the word out that he's really quite a scary dude.

Paul wanted to impeach Clinton before Ken Starr. Seriously.

Ron Paul's one strength is that he would be the first gay republican nominee for president, not counting Lincoln.

@15: Yeah, and Google was the top result! The system works! :P

@15: That seems like the kind of thing that would fuck up the space-time continuum. Don't do it again.

Libertarians are just Republicans ashamed at what happened to their party.

Doesn't make 'em right, just less sad.

So there was a Ron Paul flier on a pole outside of the Blue Moon last night, which led to a co-worker asking me a question:

"Why is he so funny looking?"

"Because he's a fringe candidate," I replied.

Ron Paul? Oh, you mean the guy who wins all the cable T.V. news networks' post-Repbulican-debate polls about who was most impressive at the debate? The guy the cable T.V. news networks have not designated as a front-runner and is thus unrecognizable to everyone who thinks getting a balanced view of the world involves watching both CNN and FOX News? The guy who sounds like he's speaking a foreign language at the debates because he's the only one not spouting Republican talking points? The only Republican Presidential candidate who will admit that the U.S. invasion and continued occupation of Iraq is a ridiculous mess that we need to get out of now?

Man. Ron Paul... Ron Paul... Who is this Ron Paul I keep hearing about?

Republican? Libertarian? I heard on the news that he's Nodalectraball. Does anyone know what that is? I heard that about Kucinich and Gravel, too. Is that like the anti-illegal-war party? The restore-the-constitution party?

Who are these people?

Hay -- are you voting for Obama or Hillary next month? Do you think we're ready for a black man or a woman for President?

Ron Paul is the Republicans' Mike Gravel. Except Gravel went to the Supreme Court to support freedom of information, after reading the Pentago Papers into the Congressional Record.

Ron Paul is in this day of Oreweillian language a true conservative, A conservative to the Constitution. (GW is not a conservative. He has been the most radical president to date).
If one looks at his voting record, and not media sound bites he truly shatters the left/right paradigm.
He is not a member of the C.F.R. please find out what candidates are C.F.R. members.
Is for Abolishing the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve is a private bank, that charges us to use paper with no true value.
He wants to end the I.R.S. Against the North American Union/S.P.P.He is against the Real I.D. or National I.D. act.
He wants to end the Corporate welfare system.
