“Christ is over here, Senator Obama is over there.”

posted by on September 15 at 11:30 AM

Alan Keyes—batshitcrazy Alan Keyes—has announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination. I suppose a Keyes v. Obama rematch is too much to hope for. The last one didn’t go so well for Alan.

Keyes is a raving homophobe—and Jesus rewarded him with a queer daughter, Maya, with the nerve to come out. (Here’s what I had to say about Maya back in 2005.) Keyes disowned his daughter and threw out of the house. But Maya’s picture is still up on Keyes’ website…

That’s her on the left there, with her father’s hand on her shoulder.

That photo is bizarrely reminiscent of the Santorum family portrait.

Evidently his desire to sponge off of campaign donors has yet again overwhelmed any desire to avoid prolonged humiliation. I mean, geez, will this guy ever take "no" for an answer from the public?

I guess every big city needs a Ken Hutcherson.

Having a good chuckle with several friends here.

Wondering if Alan Keyes is going to endorse Tim Burgess for City Council - two peas in about the same pod - after all isn't Keyes one of the folks Burgess thinks we should recruit to get better political traction?

People of faith from .... you know Burgess's famed editorial letter/plea to Seattle.

People such as Keyes pose a far greater danger to America than the 9/11 events ever did. The Taliban takes many forms, Alan Keyes is one form.

slime machine Keyes -who can deal with such blather

all love except the lesbian daughter, ugh, ugh, ugh

Keyes couldn't possibly endorse Burgess, because Keyes cares only for a rigid ideology that has no room for anyone who slightly deviates from his narrow path.

Anybody who so much as hints that people who think differently are worth working with, as Burgess has done, isn't a real Christian to Keyes and so must be ruthlessly driven out. Ideologues live in a very small world. People like Keyes are obsessed. If you were to comment on what you had for lunch, Keyes would find a way to make the conversation all about his ideology.

Know anybody like that, Mary?

is it just me or does it seem like republican politicians are more likely to have gay kids than democrats? there's reagan, cheney, keyes and even sonny bono, for starters. i can't think of any elected democrats with gay kids right off hand.

is this because repubs are more likely to breed homos or because the media picks up on the drama and irony of homophobes having queer kids?

I always end up with this sense of conflicted guilt when I read about the kids of bigoted elected officials turning out to be queer. I mean, my first reaction is always to laugh meanly (at the elected officials), but then I think about how much it must've sucked for those kids to come out to parents like that.

#7 -Above - need to lighten up - I do think the "people of faith" community hangs together.

And what is new about lying PR hacks?

Rigid ex cops? Take the hate money and snicker how the nice Seattle people don't get it?

New, hardly... leadership hardly. I find Burgess's game old, stale, and cynical. Take the hate monger money and talk of Jesus, oh sure, what a bizarre concept of Christ like values.

Bah to Burgess and his double talk. And if he and Keyes are people of faith, so very glad they will never breath my air or touch me. Contaminated, both of them.

Bubba, you been brainwashed. Or in the turnip field too long.

The people of faith I admire were taking care of people with AIDS suffering in dying agony, NOT writing hate mail to raise millions of dollars off their blood and plight. Case in point for both Keyes and Burgess - Mother Theresa opened AIDS hospices - did not preach or sell hate.

By the way, if it exists, hate vendors surely will go to hell.

I agree entirely. Eternal damnation an all who would abuse the truth in pursuit of their political goals.

I wish the Republicans would have a fundamentalist Scientologist running, because it would provide a nice platform to demonstrate to the Christians how crazy they look when they follow this nonsense.

I will repeat this story until I or Alan Keyes dies, whichever comes first. It contains little that is surprising, but always brings a chuckle for me.

I worked in hotels for many years, including when Alan Keyes stayed in my hotel during the 1996 campaign. Knowing at the time that Keyes was a christianista anti-sex psychotic jackass, nothing brought me greater pleasure than reviewing his room bill and seeing that he had watched a porno.

Often, out of deference to customer service, hotels will just remove these movies if you ask nicely enough and/or insist you didn't watch it (even though we know you did, ya fuckin perv).

Not me. Not with Alan Keyes. I wanted his fucking FEC reports to show one porno movie charged to his bigoted campaign, and I made him pay for that fucking thing. I'm happy to say that I have faced an angry Mr. and Mrs. Keyes and survived to laugh and laugh and laugh every time his crazy ass runs for office.

Why, oh why, didn't you leak his hotel bill at the time?!?!

Sargon Bighorn @#5 get's the award for perfectly illustrating what is so fucked up about the left. Moral equivilency and moral relativism. As batshit crazy as Keyes and his kind are I don't see fags being murdered or executed in the streets. When they are the person goes to prison forever. Please clarify, You're saying that your life as a pampered American twat sitting in a Starbucks is just like living in third world Islam toilet where you could be killed at any moment?

I can't tell you how happy I was to hear this. I mean, it's just great. Alan Keyes brings a particular brand of crazy to any campaign, and I was sad that he wasn't in any of the debates. I'd really like him to be in the next few.

If Keyes is an asshole what is Dan Savage? A man who supported a war that has resulted in the maiming and deaths of tens of thousands of human beings, and supported it just to be edgy; just to get a rise out of people; just to be snarky? I don\'t understand why some people actually think Dan Savage is a person to admire and emulate. Maybe when they reach the age of eighteen and are facing the draft they will finally get it. Well known cocksuckers can support American wars at no risk to themselves. Other people are cannon fodder.

The Separation of Church and State may not be in the Constitution, but the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights might have something to say about it.

If people don't see a problem with this kind of person running for a position in U.S. government, we have a serious problem.

@25, find a new fucking crusade already other than using every single post on this blog to rag on Dan for an editorial he wrote four years go. Preferably a crusade that will actually make a fraction of an iota of difference to anyone, anywhere. Why haven't you blocked this spamming little shit's IP yet, Stranger staff?

We admire him for one simple reason:

when he posts on Slog, he uses his own fucking name.

What a fucking douche.

This is AWESOME! Seriously, Alan Keyes on the campaign trail is the best news I've heard all day.

I am not kidding, during the 2004 Senate race, I saw one - one - Alan Keyes sign in a yard in Chicago. It was so unfamiliar I had to look a couple times to even see what it was.

I think Obama won with about 70%.
